…… Pants on fire !

It seems that a disabled man aged 71 from Southminster in Essex, died at his bungalow recently.

The cause of death??? He accidentally set fire to his incontinence pants while smoking.

When I had finished laughing at the absurdity of this somewhat unusual manner of his death … I realised that there was a serious underlying point to be made.

Is anybody REALLY aware of the inflammable nature of incontinence pants and the potentially lethal effects of combining said pants with smoking.

The plain fact is that by their nature and function, incontinence pants fill up over time.

Do wearers receive adequate training in regularly emptying them and disposing of their contents safely?? When you think about it, the dangers are all there for us to see.

The pants imperceptible fill up; the wearer is not fully aware that his (or her) pants are becoming progressively heavier; they settle back in the armchair for a gentle snooze; natural fermentation takes place and a quantity of methane gas is generated; the incontinence pants blow up like a balloon – full of highly explosive methane gas.

So the incontinence pants wearer awakens feeling nice and warm and relaxed. “I know” they say “I’ll just have a quick smoke before my afternoon tea” …. they light up and BOOM the pants explode…… instant cremation for the poor old wearer- and the living room walls and ceiling are covered in ………..well you get the picture.

I really think that the Health and Safety Executive should post warnings on their website about the dangers of failing to regularly and safely dispose of the explosive contents of incontinence pants, before anybody else gets hurt.
