    ~ Our Last Dance ~

His body fighting, as he tried to stand. The nurse couldn’t restrain him, it was his last chance..

‘What is wrong,’ I lashed out at her, ‘why can’t you help him, is it too much to ask?’
Taking the rail from his bed, holding him tightly, his weight I carried.

Arms wrapped around me, with feet barely moving, he swayed from side to side.
I could hear the words to our song, faintly through his moans.

I knew what he wanted, he just wanted to dance. With trembling bodies, and breaking hearts, we held each other tight, swaying to our own music, while we had the chance.

With a loving kiss, he was back to his bed, resting now, content in his own peaceful sleep. The nurse stood in amazement, tears flowing without control,
as she witnessed our love, and our last dance.

** This poem is a true story, this is the last time my grandmother and grandfather danced!!
