NEEDLESS
People are fighting all over the earth
Someone dies and someone gives birth
Some die young and some die old
Some with the heat and some with the cold
Some die by the force of a car
Some are killed by war set of afar
Idiotic people taking lives at will
Enough people die with out having to killPeople are dieing because of famine and drought
With wars entire cultures have been wiped out
They say lives are expendable, and well all finally go
I disagree, my life is my own, and this I know
So take heed and learn from the past

THE COTTAGE
The cottage is set amongst a condensed wood
Surrounded by the breath of nature
Seemingly solitary in peace and quiet
Yet the cottage is impure
While painted wall attacked by moss
The weary old thatch, brittle and crumbling away
You venture the unhinged front door
You enter a darkened derelict hall
Spiders’ webs carpet every corner
A mouse scurries across the floor
The bathroom, bedrooms, kitchen and lounge
Are all abandoned, left to a natural zest
Life lives on here
Thriving on everything and nothing
Silence does not exist here anymore
Creatures hum and drum all around
Whether at work or play
Tranquil to the human eye
Life still goes on
Peace is not a silent thing
It is the quiet drone of busy bodies at work
Fighting to grow and survive
Nature has a magic within
Especially in this little abandoned CottageG.J.SMITH
MY NAME IS BUT A WORD
My name is just a word
Garry I so am called
If I was known as Fred
My life different would I have led
If my name was Patrick
Would I be less romantic?
I think I would be the same
Even if my name was Jane
What is in a name?
So important to change the game
Can a bunch of letters
Turn you into a fretter
Consonants and vowels
Turn you into someone who scowls
What would we be without a name?
Someone different or would be just the same.G.J.SMITH
FALLEN
How much can a fall hurt?
Could it be the distance?
Or the length of time it takes
To hit the floor
The pain is evident
As cuts and bruises appear
But
A fall of the heart
This seems to hurt more
The time this takes to happen
Seems to last an eternity
And there is no impact on the ground
But
Emptiness inside
Darkness unlike any other
A vacuum sucking in all emotions
Draining them of all that is sweet
Spitting out what is sour
Almost nothing can save my heart
Nothing that I have found
Is there a redeeming light
Just to reduce this darkness
To a mere musty mist
But
I think there isn’t a light
Bright enough to wither away
The gloom inside
This is my heart
