So they finally found him and killed him, apparently he was living in a luxury villa next door to a military base in Pakistan, and we are supposed to believe that Pakistan were not aware he was there.. oh well.
So my question for you all is what will the fall out be? because I’m certain there will be repercussions… its all a bit scary. I was reading on another forum,,,, and this made me shiver
“I think we’re about to find out how much nuclear material is missing from the former Soviet Union” lets hope that’s not true!
Something this serious sort of puts all the silly fights at JC in perspective though… dont you think?
By the way does anyone else find those Americans partying outside the White-house distasteful?
2 May, 2011 at 11:06 am #467486Yes, i find it distateful too.
I am wary of a jihad tsunami to follow the bin Laden earthquake.
2 May, 2011 at 11:43 am #467487It could go either way. If Terror really does focus on Bin Laden, then this could leave a lot of his former associates and admirers feeling too vulnerable to make themselves targets, knowing that 10-odd years down the line they could still be taken out.
There might be some disenchantment that despite all those videotapes sent from caves in the desert and encouragement of martyrdom, Osama Bin Laden wasn’t actually sharing the hardship of the millions, but living in relative luxury (no real surprise there!).
American culture – which means not all Americans – tends to encourage a straightforward, almost fairytale, simplistic “good vs evil” approach. So the partying outside the White House come as little surprise. However that we (and I dare say a lot of other Americans) can find it distasteful is to our credit.
It is important to live in hope even when we think we know enough to make us cynical.
2 May, 2011 at 12:25 pm #467488ok i may be getting confused here, ( i prob am ) but was osama bin laden not the one that they found hiding in a dugout in the ground? How did he end up being found again in somewhere else?
Sorry, am not being weird, i really did think that they found him ages ago?
2 May, 2011 at 12:36 pm #467489Hmmmmm.
Is he dead?
Body allegedly buried @ sea?
The yanks like to parade their “kills” on tv – rather like when they killed Saddam Hussein’s two sons.
Either the country of poor taste has become “tasteful” when it comes to their trophy kills or it’s a propaganda stunt.
Whatever, this will probably lead to an increase in suicide attacks both here and in yank land.
2 May, 2011 at 1:30 pm #467490I think the chap in the hole in the ground was Saddam Hussein.
I agree that the partying in the US is distasteful … and provocative.
I can’t imagine that there will be no retaliation – the celebrations just make it more likely and potentially more devastating.
Whatever someone did or did not do, once they are dead they have paid the price. (The Green Mile)
Their remains should be treated with some respect and in line with their cultural and/or religious beliefs. If everyone showed respect for others beliefs, the world would be a much more peaceful place!2 May, 2011 at 3:20 pm #467491Americans suffered a lot with the 911 bombing in newyork many of those
shown ” partying ” could have lost family , or friends .Would we see it distasteful if they had done the same thing in canary wharf ?
if it had been a member of ur family or a close friend , we all deal with it in the
way we see fit to , a lot of anger still there along with sadness and loss ……
Reminders of the day came to life , and for those familys to have watched people
hanging out of windows screaming and jumping out of windows , seeing a family
member in pain , hearing them on the phone ,all seems to have been forgotton …Dont forget what was done , what has been done , and im sure yet to come …..
2 May, 2011 at 3:33 pm #467492That’s exactly what I think Tatler. I think the partying and cheering is more relief perhaps than anything else. A lot of those people (as you said) probably lost someone in the 9/11 attacks. How would any of us feel? How would we react?
Nicey you think his remains should be treated with respect? Did any of his victims get treated with respect? No. They got blown to bits. Apparently he’s been thrown in the sea. Good, let the bloody sharks eat him.
