27 November, 2010 at 8:31 pm #455154LOL – Gaz and his picture made me laugh..
I think Mel, some people add on more than what they should! BUT, at that age, the Government appear to be more leniant towards claimants.
An elderly gent who lived above my Grandfather – He had a ‘Bad Leg’ yet this leg was that bad, he was able to use it to operate his Accelerator.
I get what you mean though.. Those who claim to have crippling back pain are seen driving cars.. The pain is that bad they’re unable to do a majority of things, yet sit in a car seat for over an hour at a time. I’m pretty sure though that now, in ‘these times’ even the elderly who think they can get away with it, WON’T.
I’m pretty sure that if the Department actually seen this man do what he did, they’d call him in for another examination, because no doubt, he’s probably claiming for an actual disabilty, one which would refrain him from doing the activity he was doing.. I’m not saying you should whip out your camera by the way, but you seem pretty much Pi ssed Off by it.
28 November, 2010 at 12:25 am #455155there is a possibility that he has the badge in his car for when he takes around an elderly/ mobility disabled relative as they can get the badge and it be used in a relations/ friends car if they are travelling with them. That aside i know where youre coming from it would p*** me right off to see that if i thought the badge had been obtained for him, if he can stand long enough to clear paths of snow he can walk slowly from a car for quite some distance and doesnt need a badge for himself .

I know someone with bad back pain and a disabled badge who can chop wood from felled trees using a machine.”
Dunno if he receives benefits for his “disability” but it does make you wonder.
But some disabilities are not physical – a friend’s young daughter had eye problems which meant she was disabled so they got mobility and benefits for her.
Maybe this guy is the same but why have the disabled parking bay if his disability is not physical?
The mind boggles.
7 December, 2010 at 9:21 pm #455157Having a disabled parking badge and/or a disabled parking bay does not necessarily mean that you are on invalidity benefit. The person you know who chops wood with the help of a machine may simply be doing as much as he can on a good day.
I’m intrigued on how your friend got mobility allowance for her daughter because she has eye problems though, mobility allowance is linked to your ability to walk, not your ability to see. :?

The daughter had arthritis in her eyes – that’s what I was told.

Unusual but I have heard of it…but it still doesn’t affect her ability to walk therefore they shouldn’t be in receipt of mobility allowance, unless she has other issues that do affect her mobility. :?
7 December, 2010 at 10:07 pm #455160no thats feasable Jen.. for mobility reasons she might not like crossing roads and prone to panic attacks when doing so. she maybe trips up a lot too, again adding to the mobility side of things.
7 December, 2010 at 10:15 pm #455161You’re right, I’ve just looked at the checklist for claiming and it’s changed since I last looked – it used to be only for mobility issues that meant you were physically incapable of walking any distance, now it has broadened to include mobility issues that may be caused by mental health or eyesight issues. About time too, but I hadn’t realised it had changed – you learn something new every day in JC!
7 December, 2010 at 10:36 pm #455162indeed we do.. Learn something new.. I Learned tonight that RED bikinins are NOT me at all :)
sheest if the tories get their way.. they might have something to say on the Mental Health issues being used. After the care in the community Debacle.!
