I think some cope with loss better than others, and then again there are plenty of messed up people with no excuse to be, other than sheer curosity of mind altering substances.
As for Mr Geldof I think he has done an outstanding job of bringing up the kids, but what they do as adults is entirely their choice, and he cannot be blamed for what paths they choose to follow.
We all make excuses for people’s behaviours, but really we all make our own life paths, and need to live with it.
We’re only human afterall. 8)

Exactly Shaz,,,,,,and I for one don’t blame him for the antics of his daughter.
And we do all cope with loss or any other greif in our lives without resorting to becoming a headliner. She makes her own choices, she has to live by them.
3 August, 2008 at 11:47 pm #358596I have no idea how “good a job” Geldof has done bringing up his daughter but this thread is about whether certain people – rich and/or famous – are dealt with differently when it comes to possession of drugs.
On a slightly different note I find it strange that Richard Bacon was re-employed by the BBC after his drug taking revelations were made public. He’s not particularly talented at broadcasting either.
Isn’t drug taking a part of the BBC culture? Jognny Walker was a user too.
I don’t remember them ever being prosecuted.4 August, 2008 at 8:34 pm #358597If someone is addicted to drugs, and takes them regularly, they have to buy them (sorry for stating the obvious here). The people who have a lot of money have no trouble getting hold of as much as they want. The people who are not rich or famous have to find ways to raise money to get their daily fix. I am no expert, but I am pretty sure that when their need for drugs surpasses their income, they beg borrow or steal. They then become a statistic.
Until someone crosses the line and ends up on the wrong side of the law (not counting taking illegal substances!), they generally are left to get on with it from what I can make out.
The police seem only to be interested in getting the big hauls and the dealers, and more or less leave the people taking the drugs alone….. unless, as I have said.. they commit crimes.
As for all those people who have died from drug overdoses…. they were stupid to take drugs in the first place, but that doesn’t detract from the fact they were all someone’s daughter, son, mother, brother, sister, father etc. In my view it doesn’t matter if they were famous or not, the end result of a death caused by addiction is the legacy of sadness they leave in their wake.
