Line of Duty is starting to become predictable.

The red herrings, the subterfuge of Vicky McClure, the creeping-up-on-you tune which gets louder and faster to make us more and more tense at particular moments, the phenomenal body count.

The best character was Lindsay Denton (Keely Hawes) in the second and third series. You could really sympathise with her. No such character in this series – not yet anyway.

Still, it’s the most watchable thing on the box atm.

Line of Duty has two episodes to run and I’ve already guessed who the masked killer is – Roz Huntley’s cop boss.

It’s a good series but has become predictable. The interviews which put the interviewee on the spot are what my ex-boss used to do.  The creepy-deepy tune building up is geared to get your adrenaline going – an old trick. The normal American trick to build up tensions is to start with a soft drumbeat, and then to speed up the drumming. You respond to that, they found out, and when they increase the noise of the drumming too then you are on the edge of your seat.

Hollywood worked out how to make people, especially grown men, blubber like babies. It’s a Wonderful Life had this off to perfection, making this rather sick movie a Christmas favourite for all.
