you need at least 2000 signatures for it to be taken seriously..
I pledge you any help.
great rubes!! well going to let this thread ride for a few days, then put togehter anohter thread with clear options? maybe you and I could at this point liaise in pm to put the options together? to be realistic this will probably be now after christmas , so if we both note whats been said and get together on say january 2nd to construct the 2nd thread and go from there?
20 December, 2009 at 9:01 pm #426504I’ll help too
I will get as many friends as possible to add their names. Only thing i’m not sure of is using real names in this environment. What about a facebook instead. We could set up a facebook account maybe, then it will get thousands of people joining.
We just need to make it a strongly and clearly worded petition.

Agreed mims, but, the other point you make no names will be on here?
they will be paper petitions from your own little corner of britain, one person on here maybe who lives in say islington london for instance would take up the one thing we all decide we want changed, physically put together the petition and collect the names from their own locality? then, that person who has pledged to do whatever area they are in, would be responsible for physically sending the petition in for the 1st March?
Each person who agrees to set up a petition will physcially collect their own signatures? that way form each corner of britain a petition will land on the door mat at number 10 at the same time, showing them that whoever has signed it, hopefully there will be a lot, feels strongly about the change
A facebook account is a good idea too, im not sure how u do that, maybe we can liaise at a later date once the wording has been agreed? x
20 December, 2009 at 9:10 pm #426506ok that sounds brilliant…. i am in!
20 December, 2009 at 9:25 pm #426507Ok, so if Rubes and mims and anyone else could pm me with suggestions of wordings once the thread has run for a few days, we can then put up a poll, like i said , maybe it wont be untill after the holidays? i have both of your msn addresses too, we could just get into a 3 way conversation to decide the wording of the thread?
So , for the rest of you, what we would like is for you to say what you would like to see happen to child murderers/abusers please stay away from the mob mentality, it has to be realistic, we can then take some of those ideas and word the petition, this is for all those children who are horrifically abused, we cannot save them I know, but we can help to get better justice for them by the punishment fitting the crime maybe?
As Pb said we have to be specific , and know exactly what we want to change. so what do YOU want to change, what sentences would YOU like to see?
20 December, 2009 at 9:37 pm #426508Will give some thought to realistically what I want, but you might also want to consider setting up an e-petition here:
http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/
Another forum that I use is very politically active and makes great use of this, I know that if I put a link on that forum to such a petition there’ll be well over 2,000 signatures generated from members of that site alone. Everyone who signs the petition also gets an email with the government response.
20 December, 2009 at 9:43 pm #426509Just had a look around e-petitions and there’s already a petition for life to mean life:
http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/No2ndchances/and one for sentences and rehabilition to be reviewed:
http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/ROCLAP/20 December, 2009 at 9:56 pm #426510For people like Vanessa George who abused her position of trust as a nursery worker, for people who deliberately get into working environments to get close to children so that they can harm them (like Ian Huntley), for people who become foster parents and then foster children so they can abuse them………….for those people I would like to see them get life. Even if they do not kill the children they have given those children a life sentence as none of them ever forget. We have to have tough sentences for these kinds of people.
For people who rape babies and toddlers……….chemical castration and life sentences which mean they are inside for a long time.
For people who have sexually abused and killed children, chemical castration and a life sentence that means they stay inside for ever.
Ok, that is my first attempt. I have not really looked at what people like Ian Huntley got yet, so will do some research and then adjust things a bit. I have strong feelings about the use of chemical castration, but i don’t know the figures in this country for its current use.
Wikepedia has basic entries and i haven’t got time to go into any depth but….
Chemical castration is the administration of medication designed to reduce libido and sexual activity, usually in the hope of preventing rapists, child molesters and other sex offenders from repeating their crimes. Unlike surgical castration, where the testes are removed through an incision in the scrotum,[1] chemical castration does not actually castrate the person, nor is it a form of sterilization, hence the term “chemical castration” has been called a misnomer.[2].
Chemical castration is generally considered reversible when treatment is discontinued; in the case of Depo Provera, “no permanent physical change is wrought in the body.”[2] Castration has, from time to time, been used as an instrument of public and/or judicial policy despite concerns over human rights and possible side effects.[3][4]
The drug cyproterone acetate has been commonly used for chemical castration throughout Europe. It is similar to the drug MPA used in America.[4]
In the 1960s, German physicians used antiandrogens as a treatment for sexual paraphilia [4]
On September 25th, 2009, Poland passed legislation for forcible chemical castration of child molesters. [19]
20 December, 2009 at 9:59 pm #426511Have just had a look at your links jen and they look like a good place to start for wording. But they just say life should mean life and… “tougher sentences” its all a bit vague. Should we be as vague? Or do you want to be specific?
20 December, 2009 at 10:04 pm #426512I have just submitted my essay for my application to uni for a child protection degree and controversially pulled apart the case of jamie bulger.
There in itself is a casing point.
Just because they were children themselves they were not as accountable. They have been given a new life, new names, anonomity . . go figure !
So with all that they did to that poor boy ( and shame on the authorities for letting them go a few days earlier having prevented them from an attempted child snatching in the same mall ) you tell me they were too young to be responsible for their actions ?
Sentences should be consistant and should not mean 10 years but really if you behave inside you’ll be out in 3 . . . oh and the 2.5 yrs you’ve been waiting forthe trial counts towards it. Life should be life ! Myra Hindley & Ian Brady . . got life . . and did life ! Sentences seemed harsh back then compared to now, but they weren’t, they were kept real! Its more a case that sentences are far too lenient these days , and that’s if your case even gets to court !
Count me in for whatever goes.
