Pete, you stand for pariment, I`ll give you my vote.
In the meantime, work with what we have…
if enough of us come up with a feasible idea, and lobby it enough we might be able to at least make some changes in the law….
and softly, softly, catchee monkey :)
14 January, 2010 at 12:26 am #426584on our local news, look east which includes cambridgeshire, I caught the tail end of a story about a woman who had been abused by her stepfather from the age of 7 till she was 21, she had 4 children by him and only managed to find the courage to report all of this when she was 30……………
how long did the stepfather serve for ruining another persons life? 18 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!
I cant find the link but will post it when i do

14 January, 2010 at 7:28 pm #426586Are we going to list horrors? Or are we going to put together a petition? 18 months is appalling but we all know that people get a slapped wrist and told not to do it again, when their actions put the victim in counselling for life!
There are horrors too many to mention that parade across our screens…I want to make sure that the government and the law does something. I have been looking at a site which allows for petitions to be created which allow for online signing. Once I figure out the best way to do it I will let you know. But we have to have some ideas on what we want to say to get people to sign.. and i don’t mean along the lines of…Life should mean Life and Bring Back the Death Penalty. These kinds of petitions have been made to the government all the time. We need to find a way to be different… to pack a punch. We should be looking at getting millions of signatures and not settle for thousands but we get a finite amount of time, and from what i can make out once you hit 500, you get a response from government.
Here is the first part of the instructions:
You will be asked to give your name, organisation (if you represent one), address and email address, and the title and text of your petition. You will also be asked to give a short, one-word name for your petition. This will be used to give your petition a unique URL (website address) that you can use to publicise your petition.
You will be able to specify a start and finish date for your petition, and we can host your petition for up to 12 months.
We can get everyone we know to link to the petition to e-sign it and also publicise on social networking sites like facebook as well as here and amongst friends.
But.. we have to make it a good one…. it has to be different and we need a name that people will remember that hasn’t been used before!
Get your thinking caps on everyone. My feeling is we will get one shot at this.
17 January, 2010 at 9:17 pm #426587There are already lots of petitions on the site I quote above. Perhaps one more won’t do any more good.
I will think of another way to do this.

29 January, 2010 at 5:54 pm #426589Ok…
Anyone convicted of a crime with a sexual motive against minors faces a sentence of life serving at LEAST 12 years, when parole would then be considered.
Chemical castration?
No new identidies for criminals, if they have served their time, and don`t re offend, they shouldn`t need them.
Compensation to the victim to cover costs of any thrapy the victim needs, loss of earnings, etc.
The vitim should be informed of the offenders whereabouts on release, and the offender not be allowed within a 10 mile radius of the victims home.
We need to educate our youngsters, support them, and not tar them all with the same brush. Famillies with (shall we say) “issues” need help, advice and support, not condemning.
