Over and over again on the boards, we read, we rant at the attrocities being given to some of the poor babies in children who have been in the news over the years.

Can we manage a thread where we can really say what should happen to them, i.e should we bring back hanging, should life mean life, should it be one strike and your’ out?

Please let this thread not be taken over by the idiots, lets have some real suggestions we can actually take to the powers that be? there are enough members in Just Chat to hold an awful lot of clout, you all know people , maybe if enough people get together with their own petitions to the power that be with the concerns and the disgust at the judicial service something may be done?

for anyone thats willing, we could lobby the people in power with a list of things from here from each of our own little corners? we could set a date so that all of them go in the same time? is this a real possibility? is this something we can all do? is this something anyone is willing to do.

Ok. lets start by setting a date for the petitions to go in? how about March 1st?

the idea is rubes that we all say what we want to happen to these people, then pick the ones that we know can be done, we all know we cant have these people vigilante style, then, each of us take the agreed suggestions i.e , life mean life, longer sentences etc

then we all make our own petitions iwith the agreed changes as above in our own little corners where we live and each of us get a signed petition with as many names as we can each.

then, we all agree to send them to 10 downing street to arrive on March 1st?

ok so my suggestion is life should mean life for child abusers

    #426497

One thing to be changed is the Human Rights Act – these people and criminals in general are protected far too much by this act.

I agree cath, life should mean life… no release for good behaviour, no putting them in open prisons so they can escape…. in prison until they die.

But….. we need a petition or something that we can sign and not something that is emailed round the world forever, a proper one that someone can print out and send in to the Prime Minister or the Home Secretary or .. hmm who should we send it to?

    #426499

you need at least 2000 signatures for it to be taken seriously..

    I pledge you any help.

Ok, I’m not making this clear I dont think ……..

    1. we all agree on what we want changed, it cant be several things because i think it wont hold weight.

    2. if we all agree that one of the things we would like to see is that life should mean life for all child abusers , or certainly for those who kill children then thats the one we should use

    3. once agreed we all start our own petition to change the sentences of life meaning life ets then we ourselves go out into our own little corner of our part of the world with the petition and get as many signatures as we can

    4. once we have each gotten our petition together for whatever change we coordinate to ensure that our petitions reach the prime minister or 10 downing street at the same time, i have suggested 1st March 2010

does that make sense? its hard to get across sometimes on here and i fear i may have confused some people

Before you attempt to decide on a punishment Cath, you have to really clearly define the crime to which that punishment should apply.

The term “Child abuser” for example probably means different things to different people. Whereas one person might accept ‘reasonable parental chastisement’ another would totally oppose it.

Some parent(s) feel that it is OK for their early teenage daughter to have full on sexual intercourse with this week’s ‘boyfriend’ (and actively encourage it by allowing it to happen in their homes), whilst other parents utterly refuse to condone sex before marriage.

If this idea of yours – which incidentally I wholeheartedly support – is to have any real effect, then there needs to be a level of clarity over what exactly is being proposed.

BTW: As you know, my default setting is cynicism and in this context, it is readily and frequently admitted by MPs of all parties, that if there were to be a referendum on ‘Capital Punishment’ there would be an overwhelming “YES” vote. However, even on a ‘free vote’ such a law would NEVER get through the House of Commons.

Ok PB good advice, so another thread needs to be set up determining this , so will wait and see for a couple of days the comments, then start another thread with clear options. thank you for your input
