Cameras were supposed to be a deterrent… they were supposed to educate us all to understand speed … to take notice and slow down. Whats the point of hiding them to catch people? as anc said the only people they catch going fast is people who don’t know they are there……. if they did know they were there they would be going slower.
only going slow where the cameras are is no good in the long run, you need to watch your speed everywhere you drive, so now if there hidden you’d be more likely to drive within the speed limit everywhere making everywhere more safer and not just where the cameras are.
You see it all the time, people slaming on brakes to make the camera but speed off once pass them.7 November, 2012 at 11:29 am #513814@irish_lucy wrote:
good its about time, SPEED KILLS.
The police dont warn any other people when they brake the law so why should they say where speed cameras are?
If your own child gets killed by a speeding car would you really run over and say ah dont worry about it I know you werent warned about the camera so i understand why you didnt slow down.
No of course you bloody wouldnt.
Exactly.
Speeding is an offence. People die. We all have a speedo on our car or bike.
Easy-peasy.
If I ever get a ticket I will be blaming myself not the speed camera or the system.

Sneaky or not, you should be driving within speed limits ….for your own sake, and not that of others.
As for being educated not to speed…
Errrr…..they do that when you take your driving licence, if you don’t get it, it’s your own fault.
What I say is stop blaming the system for your own flaws. That’s us told!
7 November, 2012 at 12:17 pm #513819Government guidelines are that speed cameras should be visible from a reasonable distance (specified for different speed limits) and the speed limit indicated. However lack of visibility is not a legal defence against a speeding ticket.
While high speed collisions are more likely to be fatal, I wonder at the stupid, bullying behaviour of drivers at high speed such as those who would drive ridiculously close behind the car in front and flash their lights rather than overtake when the outside lane is available and clear. Or drive close behind, overtake, pull in front and then slow down. I’m neither immune to the lure of speed, nor impressed by the prevalence of stupidity amongst drivers.

True – but she’s right.
We all know it’s illegal. We all know people die. We can all avoid doing it almost all of the time.
Not sure how you say it without sounding a bit preachy.
On a lighter topic – it not raining, so the dog is getting excited and looking out the window. Time for a bracing walk in the autumn sunshine I think.
