Police across England and Wales are to begin taking fingerprints while on patrol using mobile electronic devices.
The portable gadgets – similar to a pocket PC and linked to a database of 6.5m prints – will enable officers to identify suspects within minutes.Story here.
22 November, 2006 at 11:16 am #250377What a waste of money this is. If you have no criminal convictions and have never committed a crime you would have no problems giving your finger prints at the roadside, however if you have a criminal history or have recently committed an offence, then you would not give it, and the police have no power what so ever to insist that you have to give it to them. So you still would have to go to the station if the police felt that you were hiding anything. Utter madness and another waste of public money.

22 November, 2006 at 5:18 pm #250379I can’t remember where it was, but when I was in the car this afternoon, the news came on, and it said that the police had stopped several people today and had used this new fingerprinting device. One driver was found to be ok, he was the owner of the vehicle etc., but it was found that he was currently on a ban! another driver also stopped, was found to be un-insured.
Despite previous reservations about it, it does seem to work.

Perhaps you don’t mind if yourself, or a member of your family is disabled for life by a uninsured driver?

No … it’s much better to be disabled for life by an insured driver isn’t it???

Ah yes, the spin answer to a police state…
Why dont the police (or insurance busters) just gain access to those vehicles which dont have insurance, and track them down? If the vehicle isnt at home, then you’d need a bloody good reason why it isnt.
