Mike Myers to play Keith Moon.

Austin Powers star Mike Myers is to play one of his heroes, the late Keith Moon in a film about The Who drummer’s life.

The band’s lead singer Roger Daltrey is producing the movie, which is finally getting off the ground after ten years.

Myers first became interested in the role several years ago, but was too busy to sign on the dotted line.

Moon died from an overdose of prescription drugs in 1978, at the age of 32.

Myers, 42, who last appeared on screen in The Cat In The Hat, a movie adaptation of the famous Dr Seuss story, met Daltrey in 2002 to talk about the project, and the singer endorsed him.

Moon’s penchant for blowing up toilets, heaving televisions out of hotel windows and letting off fire extinguishers set the rock `n’ roll standard for trashing hotel rooms.

Moon once rigged his drum kit to explode at the climax of My Generation during an appearance on American TV – causing guitarist Pete Townshend’s hair to catch fire, and Moon to get injured as well.

I’m looking forward to this film! 8)

While performing with The Who on “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour”
one night in 1967, Keith Moon decided to surprise the audience by
augmenting the band’s standard pyrotechnic display with an enormous
charge of gunpowder. At the end of “My Generation,” Moon detonated his
    drums.
The upshot? Moon was blown into the air and cut by flying shrapnel from his
cymbals. The explosion fried a camera, the studio’s monitors, and much of
guitarist Pete Townshend’s hair, and left Townshend with permanent hearing
    damage.
