A big NO for me…a major step to a police state.
Nothing to hide, nothing to fear. What a creepy slogan they use which exposes their mentality more than the opponents of attacks on civil liberties. It could just as easily serve as the slogan of the SS in their hunt for Jews.
too many bent coppers in the force…………sort your own house out first before descending on others [-X
2 August, 2012 at 11:48 pm #505837I see the arguements against but what if a National DNA database helped stop killers before they become serial killers?
Levi Bellfield killed 3 ppl.
Milly Dowler, was his first victim in murdered in March 2002. Her body was found in Sept 2002.
Bellfield then killed Marsha McDonnell in 2003 and Amelie Delagrange in 2004.
Bellfield is also suspected of other murders, prior to that of Milly.
Obviously DNA technology has advanced over the years, but if a national database had been established as soon as its benefits had been known, perhaps most of Bellfield’s victims would still be alive?
To me, stopping serial killers, rapists, paedophilles etc is more important than having my DNA stored.
Afterall, The DVLA, the Passport Office, the National Census, my doctor, my bank, credit card and insurance companies all have my personal details.
A database having my DNA really makes no more difference.
Once my DNA profile is stored on computer, the original source can be destroyed. That way, dodgy cops can’t frame me.
But if a match does come up at a crime scene, then another sample is taken to check there is no mistake.

Yes but it would only contain those that have had their DNA taken when arrested.
I was born in the 70s. They didn’t know about DNA then and I’ve never been arrested. That doesn’t mean I’m not a criminal though, it just means I’ve never been caught.
Btw. I’m not a criminal. :P
