29 July, 2006 at 9:04 pm #230808Tut Herman, you are acting like a scouser again. Calm Down, Calm Down, Calm Down…
I never said he would be a better player if he played for Juve or the scum (whoever they are). I said if he WAS a better player, he would have been signed by a bigger team. The fact that he doesn’t play for Milan, Juve, Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid (to name but 5 better teams than Liverpool) tells you all you need to know.
I like Gerrard, btw, and think he is a great player (and Liverpool are my English team) – he’s just not, in my opinion, the best player in the World. I think there will be lots of “clueless muppets” like me who could think of someone other than Gerrard who could claim to be the ‘best player in the world’.

ok, barca may be a slightly better team, when Liverpool won the euro cup, they beat Milan, juventus, and chelsea on their road to glory. hardly better teams are they? and as for madrid? they are just crap now, have been for years. The way Gerrard wins matches makes him the best player in the world, vs West Ham, fa cup final, vs Olympiakos, euro group stage, vs milan euro final, says it all mate

Gerrard has had plenty of opportunity to leave for a bigger club, but he is LOYAL to his team and LOYAL to the city he was born and raised in. Something that seems to be lacking in todays modern game.
30 July, 2006 at 9:47 am #230811I agree Fast although it is perhaps worth remembering that just last year he was thinking hard about moving to a better club (i.e. one with better prospects of regular success) and it was only the fact that Liverpool won the Euro Cup that kept him there (as he said, “how can I leave this club NOW?”). At that time, many of the fans were hoping he would stop farting about and just go as it was affecting his performances.
Anyway, a great player, many world class attributes, a great leader with the ability to grab a game by the scruff of it’s neck, hope he gets England captaincy, Gretna would snap him up etc etc – just not the best player in the World (in my view).
Would someone care to nominate another player ffs to get Herman off my back?

And if you are going to quote a story then try and get the facts right. Gerrard only showed an interest in leaving when he assumed (wrongly) that Liverpool wanted to sell him. Once it was made clear to him that Liverpool had NO intention of selling him he didn’t hesitate in signing a new contract.

once liverpool offered him more money
30 July, 2006 at 10:30 am #230814Once Liverpool made it clear they wanted him to stay. No need for re-editing
