sceptical guy you sure that was meant for you, she quoted under Panda, could have sworn thats who she was refering too.

    I could be wrong though!!!!

    who knows, Lucy?

But the principle remains the same.

The anonymity which characterises chat is very important. It’s attractive – you can play games, create characters, develop imaginative narratives. I find cyber mucking odd, as a lot of ppl take it seriously; to me, it’s a literary device, and I soon got bored with it. But different ppl are different, and that has to be respected.

But anonymity is also dangerous, as it allows stalking, embarrassment, emotional blackmail and generally making our brief lives that much more unpleasant.

I don’t have anything against coathanger (and I think panda was talking about coathanger in this context) – as yet – and unlike Panda I don’t object at all to the use of anonymity by our storytellers. But some ppl aren’t feeling comfy wiht the stories, and I expect coathanger to take that into account. I’m not naive, though, and I know that at least one of coathanger’s victims has been one of the malicious charactrers who deserved all that was coming their way lol

don’t attack me, coatsie please #-o

I think I may have used the chat twice..max.

    Its just not for me.

I find a lot of people get carried away while on the internet.
The line between reailty and internet becomes verry blured.

As people have pointed out, its verry easy to just go in a change your name and nobody would ever know.
Its extreamly easy for people to use the internet to become a different person, miles apart from the true person that they are.
Its for this reason that I dont use chat, and the same reason I wouldnt add anybody i met on a public forum to my friends list on facebook.

You just never really know who you are talking to.

And i would just like to add…..Im somtimes amazed at the amount of information people share with “strangers” online.

I agree with you Jenni…. I do chat occasionally, usually as jillybean but I have to admit its not something that comes natural to me and I prefer the boards. I am always suspicious of everyone in chat, I have no idea why… maybe its because I am a bit of an open book so I’m always wary that I might leave myself open to charlatans… on the boards you can ponder what you say… its not so immediate.

I only know one persons personal details here and I would never share that information.

Going into chat to abuse seems ridiculous to me if I wanted a row with someone I would tell them its me…. thats part of a row isn’t it? whats the point of them not knowing?

    anc

Hmmmmm having gone from absolutely totally niaive to knowing someone’s typing straight away, I do have to confess to going in under diff names IN THE PAST! Cos I was nosey and I couldn’t be arsed to type tbh! I let all the peeps that I talk to in m s n and on the tel. know that I was in, just watching, whilst the footie/rubgby/darts/snooker etc etc was on  – I have never ‘type’d in the lobby under a diff name, just pm’d to let my m8’s know. I seriously don’t think there is anything wrong with that, and I am absolutely positive others do the same – so what?! However I do agree with everyone, that when someone abuses someone else under a different name, that is plain cowardness and they obviously dont have a life!!!!!!!!!

I am anc, and I am proud of it! :D

Oh if I had a pound for every time I’ve read “I’ve never changed names” or “I’ve never typed in the lobby in a different name” or “I think it’s awful that regulars change names to abuse, I’d never do a thing like that”…yeah right.

Far more people do it, women as well as men, that would ever admit to it.
