No it is not ok, that isn’t an accident that the parents feel guilt over, it’s wanton neglect.

The point I am trying to make is that story did get into the DM – it is just not Cameron! So jo public do get mentioned too.
13 June, 2012 at 9:58 am #498939Yep if he wasn’t PM he would have being interviewed at least, now im sure of it.
13 June, 2012 at 9:58 am #498940Many stories about Jo Public get into the DM…..didn’t think that was a point to be made or disputed…infact stories like the Cameron’s do not make it in the paper…..mine didn’t, your’s didn’t Anc, neither do the hundreds of stories get in the paper of us losing our children in department stores etc unless it ends in tragedy as in the case of Jamie Bulger….I think whoever leaked the story wanted to show the incompetence of our leader and his staff……however as someone pointed out earlier….being in the position he is….somehow they are not being treated like normal parents

Good one man!
… . . . . I have no idea what tree is being barked up with regard to “tolerance”.
It’s also abundantly clear that my “every day” reference was in relation to media coverage and myself and punda’s differing view on that part of proceedings.
So, an odd one indeed.. No such lapses in parental judgement should ever be “tolerated” upon the threadbare premise of their rate of frequency. Such a facile defence was never put forth. Therefore comparing what has been said to the conscious decision to endanger lives behind a wheel is to me a rather pompous assertion that does a great injustice to some of the more honest and open admissions posted on this thread. . . . . . . .
Calm down pepper, it’s not all about you.
Desmondy suggested that those “pointing the finger haven’t experienced that awful feeling when you think you’ve lost one of your children. It can happen to anyone, we’re only human, even politicians.” Note that the reference was not to the actual loss, but to the very human feeling that would go with it. I won’t bore you with my own stories, or my reactions at the time.
In your case the reference to ‘every day’ was not in the context of excusing the incident but in questioning whether the press would have made as much fuss. From your response to the final part of my post, we seem to agree on why that might be.
However in earlier posts you did refer to “a one off, unfortunate episode” and that it was “a little too comfortable to accuse Mr. Cameron of being pharisaic”, hence my joke which was intended to be at my own expense. It appears I failed in that. My subsequent point was that the incident was more significant than your phrase suggested, at least to me.
Of course you are entitled to think me or my assertions pompous but I would like to state clearly that in no way do I think myself or my views superior to anyone else’s on here. I do however think that I am as entitled as anyone to state my views and that my views are as worthy of assertion as your own.
I consciously try to put them over in a way which doesn’t overstate their importance, it appears that on this occasion I have failed. I apologise. I also apologise if on any occasion I have in disagreeing with your opinion even hinted at characterising you as pompous or in any other way disagreeable as a person.
Even when I have indicated that I felt personally insulted by your style, my intention was solely to refer to your presentation. I have not presumed to be able to try to hint at your character or anything else beyond what I have seen on my screen.

Fair point!
13 June, 2012 at 11:46 am #498943I’m perfectly calm Words. And no, it certainly isn’t all about me, far from it. I see no evidence to suggest it ever was in fairness? But hey ho, if you do then that’s grand.
Also, you have absolutely no reason to apologise to me with regard to anything you’ve said here or indeed anywhere else on these boards. Without going too far down the luvvie route, I fully appreciate the outstanding contribution you make to this site. You are without doubt a highly intelligent and articulate man. However, I’m sure you agree that in matters of deep import and debate, things can get somewhat sulphurous in the cut and thrust of heated argument. I am all for fighting a corner aggressively. But believe me, whilst saying that your particular assertion was pompous I am not saying you are a pompous man or in any way seeking to besmirch your character which, to reiterate, I have found impeccable on the brief occasions we have met in chat and in the main on here. I have never dismissed your posts, quite the contrary in fact. I have endeavoured to apply the utmost scrutiny and initial respect they deserve. Naturally, we disagree strongly on a number of subjects, but I sincerely hope none of these have or will ever cross the rubicon towards personal animosity. I simply wouldn’t like that.
I do realise my “style” of debate as it were can be erratic.. abrasive and even downright aggressive at times. If this is a source of discomfort for some, or indeed insulting, then I can only apologise yet again if offence is caused. My defence, as weak as it may seem, is that it is truly unintentional as far as personal hurt is concerned. I seek to punch holes in arguments, not the people who make them.On the one occasion I have cited personal offence in an argument of yours Words, I do hope that together with the very singularity of the incident, the distinction between what was said and who was saying it was clearly drawn. If not, yet again, the shortcoming was mine and not yours. It would seem these instances of offence taking are more frequent on your side, then let me state unequivocally right here, right now, that I bear no personal malice or dislike towards you.
It seems that we are simply chalk and cheese when it comes to most things.
Irresistable force and Immovable object etc..
In many ways I thank you for that.
Respect.13 June, 2012 at 3:57 pm #498944Fair play pepper
