We used to have an alcove to the side of the fireplace that just fitted a carrycot. My sister was 2 when my brother was born and intensely jealous of him. My mother would put him in the carrycot inbetween feeds and carry on with the housework. One day, panic! He wasn’t in his carrycot! Mam asks my sister if she knew what had happened to her brother…”yes”….did she know where he was….”yes”…could she show mam where he was…”no”…that time was easy, my sister had taken him out of the cot and hid him behind a pile of cushions on the sofa but as time went on she hid him in more difficult places and we’d just have to wait until he cried for his feed to find him….the back of the airing cupboard was a good one!

She always wrapped him up though and never put him anywhere dangerous but imagine these days being asked where your baby was and saying through gritted teeth “I have no idea, we’ll find him when it’s feed time”?

The thing about Cameron is, surely the security guards should have done a head count for the family.
I don’t blame them but surely that’s fundamental to being a body guard?

In addition, if a school child had been left behind on a school trip would it have been brushed aside by the media? Would the parents have been understanding?

Yes to your first question – should think a couple maybe fired that!

And yes to your second! :( I think I saw something about a kid being left behind in the media recently?! I would be absolutely fuming if anything like that had happened to one of mine put it that way!

Where does it say that they got totally blottoed? Shame on you Sceptical Guy [-X or have you been taking a leaf out of somebody else’s book?

    moi?

when it comes to people at this level, who are taking strong action against ‘problem’ families, I think a little political licence is allowed?? There was a lot of smirking at their fogetfulness at the BBC, apparently.

Panda is right there is a double standard.. Many others who left their kids behind would be crucified – oif they came from a council estate.

Is that true of how things are in the UK?
Would a single incident similar to that of the Camerons really be dealt with any differently to those living in a council estate? Apart from the media coverage of course?
Would crucifixion (be it literal or metaphorical) truly be the order of the day for “anyone else” in the event of such a one off, unfortunate episode?
In my opinion it comes across as maybe a little too comfortable to accuse Mr. Cameron of being pharisaic in this matter. A single episode like this, though highly embarrassing in terms of political spin, was I’m sure, traumatic at the time for the family. Personally, I don’t think point scoring on the wider socio-political scale is wholly appropriate.
    Humans err.
Addressing a culture of negligence and abuse is another thing.

I personally think that if this had been any other family, there would have been a media fuss and possibly some involvement from the authorities.

But it’s the Prime Minister and his wife, therefore, they couldn’t possibly be capable of child neglect, could they? :-s

Who knows what type of parents they are, they might be wonderful parents but we shouldn’t assume that just because of their social and political standing.

Then of course there is the irony – Cameron wants to tackle problem families and problem drinking. So what does he do? Leave his child behind in a pub.

Yes, he is human but he also a “leader” (though I hold no truck with him) so he should always set the standards by which we follow…

And yes I do firmly believe that in this country there one law for the rich and one law for the poor.
