Poor ol’ amber, is having herself a phantom pregnancy. I noticed she was “nesting” in the week, sneaking around the corner of the settee where there is hardly any room and tearing stuff up (she never tears stuff up).
she came off season a couple weeks ago, so the timing is right. But its wierd that Dave bought her a new toy yesterday, (as if he knew!) and it has become her baby.
Im unsure whether to remove the toy, or leave her to it. Last one she had was a few years ago now, and it was over with in a few days.
I just hate to see her soooooo emotional. What a good mother she could have been.
this is a pic of her in bed with the “baby”… the hoop on the bed.
Anybody else had experience with this?
Its all my fault anyway for not getting her “done”.
I wonder if our resident stud dog Toy has any advice for this emotional girl? Its breaking my heart, she cries if she cant find it, and if any of the cats wonder past she gives them serious evils.
3 October, 2008 at 11:21 pm #377640I know nothing about dogs.. we had cheeky the cocatiel that laid eggs on my feet ! .. usually in her cage when the family were out, id see her rocking back and forth protecting her egg ! a vet told me to remove it, as she would get all attached to an unfertilised egg. so my man used to make me do it LOL.. like the big baddie. She HATED me, as i ruined her chance of motherhood.. That was the same wee bird that came to me when she needed a pal, and died all cosy in my cleavage.
Id imagine the same with any animal OR human.. to give them false hope. ?? surely ??
3 October, 2008 at 11:23 pm #377641re -read.. REMOVE the toy.. she DOES think of it as a baby..
poor wee thing.
3 October, 2008 at 11:30 pm #377642dont matter wether u take the toy away or not, shel find another baby. my german shepherd, kira has her baby, its a brick, ive given up tryin to get it off her now, every season its the same but she wont let any dog near her & i have tried, not personally but put another boy doy dog wiv her. ive cemented the brick back in place but she keeps at them till 1 comes loose & shes got her baby back

3 October, 2008 at 11:38 pm #377645chuckles at PP. :)
I know with birds Rubes its best to remove eggs, the emotional attachment is very different to any other living thing.
Im not sure with dogs.
There is someone I can ask on another website, but Ive not been on there for a while and my lappy being all new all Ive set up is JC, emails, myspace and facebook, Ive no other sites added yet lol.
She’s away up to her upstairs bed now, waiting for me to go so she can come in the bedroom.
Im sure it will be over in a day or so, in a way its a joy to see her so caring and thoughful, but on the other hand it hurts me that she feels unusual x
she hasnt feefed any cat food in 48 hours!

3 October, 2008 at 11:43 pm #377647That wee picture of Amber has made me greet, Shazza. And don’t blame yourself for not having her ‘done.’ We haven’t had our labrador Oonagh done..it was all booked at the vet’s and hubs took her there in the car and I phoned him up and begged him to bring her back..I couldn’t bear for her to go through all that distress and pain..it’s a big op for dogs..much more complicated than the one for cats.
I fret that we’ve done the wrong thing..so I understand how you feel. Oonagh’s ‘baby’ is a little red monkey that she’s had for three years now. It gets sewn up and patched and washed..and she loves it to bits. Don’t worry about Amber..she’ll be fine..I’m sure of it.
