The world does agree with you Arc! they are the best selling band in history, with estimated sales of over 600 million records worldwide, that’s not counting solo hits that Lennon and McCarthy did. They have millions of fans today that wasn’t even born when the Beatles where around. Overrated? nar I don’t think so! they were musical geniuses!!
The Beatles were the first in a line of “boy bands” to which there music sounded the same. Just because of there sales dont make them a great band in my book, look at One rDirection ( yes a boy band) As for song writers some of our best have never even been recorded. And my last point they turned into hippys and as the pistols sang “never trust a hippy”
There’s huge differences between The Beatles and One Direction etc. The Beatles weren’t manufactured by some music “guru” , they wrote songs from day one and they served their apprenticeship in the pubs and clubs.
Oh and to name but a few people who have said they were influenced by The Beatles – Dave Grohl, Bruce Springsteen, Oasis, ACDC, U2, The Begees …… I could go on but I’d be typing the list all morning.
Not bad for a boy band
10 December, 2016 at 6:16 pm #1011373One thing about The Beatles is their usage of innovative chords. Their music is very complex. Many people don’t realize that Beatles music is studied extensively by musicologists from around the world. John Lennon learned to play on a banjo first. The Beatles changed the face of popular music and song writing in a very short space of time, which future musicians benefitted from. Students study their music as part of their GCSE exams, I think its fantastic that young people can study their ground breaking and influential Sgt. Pepper album, which changed recording techniques forever. Many people don’t realize that Beatles music is studied extensively by students all over the world
One Direction fulfil a great many boy band requirements (looks, soppy lyrics, tune-grasp, fame-lust) . I’m sure they would like to be like the Beatles lol that’s not gonna happen. Many of their songs don’t make sense, all of them about a girl, which I personally think is stupid, they even copied the Beatles Abbey road cover. They also can’t write their own songs, the worse fact about one direction is they steal other peoples songs , their songs are cheesy and absolutely have no substance at all. And in my opinion I think they are a rip off band of the Back street boys. And one of them has a head of hair like a dirty old mop. At least the Beatles were clean cut and fans wanted to dress like them.
I agree with John Lennon, the Beatles are better than Jesus Christ and One Direction!

11 December, 2016 at 3:50 pm #1011400going back to the beatles, let it be,no seriously the beatles were the wayfarers, and the pioneers of how music was supposed to be oh btw ri,p john cruelly shot down by a coward on dec 6 1980
the beatles changed music ,always innovative and always moved with the times
you play any beatles track anybody can hear ,tell the difference between lennons rasping vocals i.e revolution or going back twist and shout,or if you prefer pauls songs, melodic but nostalgiaesque,i,e yesterday,(which is the most covered song ever) as arc put on ..penny lane
they were sort of chalk and cheese, you can tell by the songs, but nobody will ever surpass the beatles at their height, they moved a nation,in fact they moved the mighty good old usa, until lennon used that “eek you shunt have said that john”
the last truly great rocknroll band to come out of england is oasis, and that was 20 years ago
i heard ppl saying yeh but they were just copying the beatles also heard this levelled at elo
i just laugh at the ppl who suggest this, they may have admired them, but theres only so many chords you know.
11 December, 2016 at 5:34 pm #1011427To me still overrated and music same old same old. But my choice and others feel the same. So not a fan of the 60s music scene in fact i hate it with a passion. And heres one more singer/song writer i cant stand hearing Bob Marley God his music got on my t1ts.
