Does anyone know of a program that I can plug my old cassette player into my comp and record the songs I have old the old cassetes onto pc then transfer them to disc, I know there are programs out there that do vhs to dvd, but am finding it difficult to find an easy one that I can use, I would like a freeware one but am willing to pay for the right program as long as it does it’s job and not to complicated. All help appreciated.

Hello Steve, when recording through the mic on the pc, open up the sound/ master speakers options and make sure the mic option box is selected in the recording control properties…this may help….good luck

Just to simplify what i mean above………….

    >>>> Control panel >>> sounds, speech and audio>>>> adjust system volume >>>
Select audio tab>>>>>select sound recording >>>>>>check the box under mic…

Hy ya Gazlan, did what you said and when it opens up so I can uncheck the mic there is no mic there to uncheck, there is only the speaker vol control in device and windows sound under applications I am running vista sp2, the external mic works fine but when I plug a lead into the jack to record something from a cassette player the comp does not recognise that I have plugged it in, if I go to configure the mic from the control panel, all I get is the speech recognition configure option, all help appreciated. thanx.I have sent a photo of what I mean.

hmmm, not to up on vista steve, on the bottom picture, have you been into the properties ? There might be options in there for mic/boost etc…. failing that, try and scan the media control device in device manger for changes ?
I know that vista has had problems with compatability, maybe if you get into the audacity properties and alter the compatability to run on a previous OP system???? i really cant think of anything else if the mic works on its own….maybe there is a configuration setting within audacity?? good luck..

As another offering steve, you havent plugged the jack into the line out instead of the mic slot? Ive done that before and it took me hours going thru all the steps until i realised..just a thought :)
