    As part of the service to our users (because we care !!!) I publish below a message received today from the government’s IT Safe team about possible dangers when using the Mozilla Firefox browser:

    Title
    =====
    ITsafe Warning 11-007

    What is it?
    ===========
    Problems affecting Mozilla products.

    What does it affect?
    ====================
    The Mozilla Firefox Browser and the Mozilla Thunderbird email client,
    which are available for a number of different operating systems
    including
    Microsoft Windows and Apple MaxOS X.

    What does it do?
    ================
    The more serious of these problems could enable an attacker to gain
    control of your computer.

    How do I fix it?
    ================
    Update the software with the downloads now available from Mozilla
    (Firefox
    version 2.0.0.5 and Thunderbird version 2.0.0.5).

    Details of Specific Problem
    ===========================
    The technical issues are described by the supplier and at the CVE
    website,
    and can be found from:

    I was just checking my e-mails and in my spam box was one from firefox asking me to update my software immediately.

    Its not a problem as I took it off my system ages ago, but am probably still on the mailing list.

    It means that Firefox/Mozilla isn’t any more immune to attacks than any other browser …. simply that because relatively few computer users worldwide use it, it makes a smaller target to aim at and the geeks can’t be bothered. One has now.

    Apparently this vulnerability has been known about for several months but this ”fix” has only just been released. By contrast Microsoft release ”fixes” every month so that your system and software are always kept up to date and protected.
