Fastcars …. would it be possible to instal Windows Media Player onto the second hard disk so that it could play the music files direct from there?????
That has been suggested by someone (who shall remain nameless :- lol) I will check that idea out tomorrow when I have more time. :)

No… that wont work.
Things have moved on slightly so let me try and explain.
When a record is downloaded to your computer it is automatically placed in a file. If you wish to move this record to another file then this is now the time to do it. “Before” you add it to media player. Once you add it to media player, media player uses the location of the record as the record “source”. You may later move the track but then all information stored in media player will be lost ie: date of download, any name alterations, amount of times played and numerous other bits of related information. Basically, it would re-add the record as a completely new piece of work and not recognise the fact that it has infact already been there for years.
My music collection is quite large and I’ve have spent a lot of time building it up and nurturing it to the condition it is now.
What I am looking for is a method of moving it without losing all of the base information connected to each track.
Did anyone understand that :?23 March, 2008 at 12:11 pm #318781@fastcars wrote:

23 March, 2008 at 12:16 pm #318782now i THINK i know what you mean fasty…I had the same probs with films. Now,when i download a film i put it directly onto hard drive ,as it wasnt letting me pick them up from files. I keep meaning to get the expert up,as im using a new system thingy, and its probably something really easy. check your programmes and see where they are stored..sorry im clueless, but it sounds kinda similar.

23 March, 2008 at 12:44 pm #318783I have tried to leave this one alone, but …………… it’s starting to get annoying now.
You have a windows problem; there is something wrong with it.
Music on a computer is just like any other file; it has a “link” which tells the computer where to find it.
This doesn’t seem to be working, it’s a library problem.
I think you have just moved the file without removing the old one from your original drive or basicly just copied it, confusing the computer.
The media player will only play from one drive at a time, if you have some tracts on one drive and some on another, the computer will only switch if you tell it, other wise it will keep playing from the original drive.
See:

And post your problem on there news group.

23 March, 2008 at 8:55 pm #318787I had the same problem, the way I solved it was to synch it to my mp3 player, then again back to the new hard drive, was a pain.. Microsoft don’t make things easy some times
