What on earth is he on today?!
He is a disgrace to referees, seriously!
21 September, 2008 at 4:48 pm #373671i rememeber about 5 years ago they all went proffesional. Qoute FA ” this will make them the best in the world”
Something has gone wrong somewhere. How was paying them £1500 a match make them see better ?21 September, 2008 at 4:51 pm #373672I hate Manu with a passion, but some of those bookings were a joke.
And all this in the new season of “respect the referee” campaign.
21 September, 2008 at 8:56 pm #373673bottled to the pressure of the home crowd, like so many refs, could have been worse, he could have given a goal rather then a goal kick, like what happened in the watford and reading game over the weekend

shaz you make it sound as if he’s normally a good referee.
He’s not.
I remember him refereeing a game between Leicester and Wolves about five years ago and he was a disgrace then too.
The phone in on Radio Leicester after the game wasn’t about football (which it should have been) – it was about whether or not Reilly was competent to referee at the top level ever again.
We need to start employing foreign referees.
People will say “no” to the idea but we have foreign managers and foreign players too.
English referee are not the best in the world.
Far from it.
Liverpool were denied a win yesterday because of a poor refereeing decision.
When will football change? And for the better.21 September, 2008 at 9:26 pm #373675When TV stops looking at incidents from every angle in super slow motion if you were in the stands you wouldnt have a clue if the ref had made a bad decision most of the time
21 September, 2008 at 9:57 pm #373676I hear you Tel
But I like to judge them on each match, have a clean slate otherwise we tend to blame them for everything that happens, so I try and put aside previous thoughts (isnt always easy).
Im all for foreign refs, there’s that Calina (spl) for one, but I think he is too old now, and possibly retired and there is a great German *cough* one and also a Dutch one who I rather like for their fairness and you can see when teams play they command respect and get it.
I just think when we are getting the “respect the ref” campaign thrust down our throats not only in the premiership but also at grass roots (my sons team and all their league have all received newsletters publicising it) its a bit ironic that already a red card has been overturned as well as the matters pointed out in this thread and we are only a bit into the season!
Its a disgrace!
21 September, 2008 at 9:59 pm #373677And I forgot to add, todays game was played without any malice or anything that may come to be expected with these big ties, so he went in it with all the wrong approach.
And hats off to whisky face for biting his lip when being interviewed.
21 September, 2008 at 10:00 pm #373678Can’t say I saw anything different today from any other game. Have to say, Peter is very correct. I think we believe refs always used to be better when the truth of the matter may well be that they never really changed, tv did.
21 September, 2008 at 10:09 pm #373679Best bit of the match was when a man u player (cant remember who it was) slip into the advertising boards and a kid behind tried to give him a slap on the head!
