Well a tip for you, look for student license editions of windows and office. They are the exact same full products.
If you know where to look, they are there, and NEVER blocked by microsoft (at least not in the years I have known about them) and all update etc perfectly fine.I must stress I am not condoning piracy, but just pointing out there is working ones out there that never have issues.
21 October, 2008 at 10:42 pm #384318Actually the Student version of Office 2007 does have a slightly reduced functionality (some of the more advanced editing options aren’t included for example) – but for most Home users this wouldn’t represent an issue.
You can buy one that is fully licensed – all you need is an e-mail address that is a genuine ”academic” one i.e. if you are at a school or college you need one in your own name at that organisation.
So yes this is an excellent tip to save money on buying or upgrading Microsoft software.

……………….there are hundreds of sites/forums/free downloads promising legit numbers and downloads and secret methods to over-ride this, and I tried pretty much all of them, but unsuccessfully.
Yes Microsoft have really wised up to this scam and as fast as somebody posts a so-called sure fire way to activate a pirated copy of Windows or Office etc, they move to block the ‘number’.
This means that you don’t get any support or updates and in fact they can remove all functionality from some of the programmes, if they are pirated copies.
Personally I think this is only fair. In many ways it’s like paying for the Road Tax on your car. If I pay for mine then I feel that others should pay for theirs and not, in essence, steal it. Software piracy is, at the end of the day, common theft.
I totally agree and understand, but my pc was custom built by some guy and never came with the product ID or boot disc, so I used a disc from somebody else but as the licence key had already been used ot caused so much work.
I could of, if desparate telephoned microsoft and explained, im sure under the circumstances they would have sent me a disc out for some sort of cost.
Im just one of those that waits until Ive tried to resolve things myself before asking for help, plus I rather enjoy a battle with Bill Gates every now and then, when needed.
and in the end I won that one, but it was a jolly well hard fought battle!
