14 July, 2006 at 8:33 am #230555The outbreaks in measles is due to the fact that the take up rate for the MMR vaccine has dropped considerably due to media hype etc…. this is across the board, whether they are indigenous to this country or not, but hey, when in doubt, blame immigrants, its easier right?
14 July, 2006 at 8:44 am #230556Hi My Ruby :D
Is your daughter breast feeding? Coz in my experience it is like piss from both ends during the meanwhile!
Mary, I have been trying to write a poem about your measles but couldn’t find any word that rhymed with ‘measles’, other than ‘weasels’. I shall get back to you.
/yours 2 jabs xxx
14 July, 2006 at 9:33 am #230557Oh dear My Ruby, as I suspected. Breast feeding is the more natural remedy and I would have thought sugar was the last thing to give a wee baby, but it seems to have worked in this case. I remember being told as a wee small boy to put butter on burns and I still have the scars to show for it!
btw got any leeches for this?
14 July, 2006 at 10:02 am #230558Putting butter ‘all over’ seems a little excessive, but as a cure would take some licking.
Actually leeches, and maggots ARE making a comeback. I have read somewhere that leeches are being used to aid recovery when skin grafts are needed, and maggots can help where antibiotics are failing in treating infections. So I may have need of your leeches in the future. Apparently a leech lasts about 20 mins before dropping off, which is quite impressive in my book!

It is a fact that diseases such as Measles and Mumps are making a comeback because the amount of parents getting their children vaccinated has ropped to arond 60% in some areas. The uptake has to be around 90% to stop these epidemics.
it’s all due to te hype that MMR is linked to autism (which is still unproven) which is why the 3 seperate injections are becoming available in some areas.
And btw..even if a child has had the MMR, they can sometimes still get measles etc, but because their body has built up some immunity due to vaccination, it is a much milder illness.
My wee one was meant to get the MMR on Wednesday, but he as ill, so he’s getting it next week :?

I dont blame anyone but the mothers who choose not to let their children have them. But immigrants dont have that luxury ( most) where they come from so i think its our doctors responsability to vacinate them. I have no faith in the NHS anymore i was a patient in a small practise very prompt and official. Now they are a healht centre right and you cant book appointments on the day it has to be 2 weeks in advance?!?!?!?!?WTF how in the hell do i know if i will be ill in 2 weeks huh? So needless to say when i thought i had food poisoning a few weeks back i booked got in 2 weeks later still having bad cramps and set off some tests and heard nothing at all and they said i would I GIVE UP.

My mother would be the first to agree with you on that one Mary – her doctor said she was just being over protective when she took me when I was little. She took me back 3 times insisting there was something wrong with me and eventually took me into hospital on Christmas Eve.
She was right – it was bacterial meningitis and I was given 4 days to live because it had been left so long.
Mind you – can’t get rid of me that easily, hehe
14 July, 2006 at 10:51 am #230562my drs is same. changed to a fancy clinic now…dr wont do home visits unless ur dyin. my grandson had a really bad cough when he was 8 months old…dr refused visit.said if hes that bad bring him down an i’ll *try* an fit u in!. daughter rang me in tears cos he couldnt get his breath…….so granny pats went down there wiv all guns blazing. he was sent into the nurse who put him on inhalor….she rang hospital an they said bring him up. he was admitted immediately. midnight that night got a fone call saying he was being transferred to specialist hospital in sheffield. he ended ip in high dependency unit with pneumia. feckin dr didnt no wat had hit him nxt day when i went down. i knew there was somethin seriously wrong wif him. granny n mums instincts are never wrong!!.
same as my girl…….was told not to have her vaccinated against whooping cough cos she was born premature. i questioned it but thort they knew best. age four she got whooping cough and my old gp who as since retired went mentle!!. said there was no reason whatever just cos she was prem to stop her avin vaccine. theres so many feckin scaremongers out there now its hard fa new young mums to know whats best. all my kids an grandkids ave had their vaccines.
an yes mine ave all had their freedom dirt wise……….gawd i remember my eldest g/daughter pickin up an eatin a slug wen she was 2.i was physically sick!!!an no it did her no harm lol. my sisters grandkids on the other hand are sterilised within an inch of their lives…drop a dummy an in the sterilizer it goes  an they is always catchin bugs!!.
