I didnt contribute anything to the first thread as it was awful to read.
There was more than just Maddie and her siblings left alone that night. Three other sets of parents also left their children.
It was not right, not something I would do. The police are loving this new stance on matters because it takes the emphasis away from the fact they missed a critical hour when Maddie was missing when they thought she would be found having wondered off.

What I do find quite interesting is that when this matter first broke out into the News (100 days ago or so) the general tone of comments initially posted were along the lines of “poor little girl” and “how terrible” etc etc.
After a few days however, and when more of the facts became generally known – especially those relating to the children having been left alone and unsupervised whilst the parents had a good time in a local tapas bar – the entire tone of the thread changed and pretty much everybody took the view that the McCanns were totally and utterly negligent etc etc.
It seems that the Media has taken a long time to catch up with the opinions of JustChat members such that at long last they are reporting on the possibility that the McCanns MAY not have been as utterly innocent as they initially suggested.
Just a further thought. Most murders / killings / manslaughters / infanticides and so on are committed by one family member or close friend/relative against the victim. So called “stranger” killings are in fact the exception rather than the rule.
Whatver the mistakes these people made time cant be turned back now.
The JustChat members that you refer to are nothing more than gossiping fish wives. Theyre the people that stand at Street Corners and gleefully mock, laugh and make jokes about other peoples misfortune.
You can just imagine them in the 15th century standing round mocking, and joking as another Witch got burned. Laughing at other peoples misfortune. The Portugese Papers should also be ashamed of themselves. Posting a lot of innuendo and anonymous sources without any substance of fact behind it. Kicking someone when theyre down is a shameful thing to do, whatever mistakes these people made.
13 August, 2007 at 6:22 pm #282142A nicely controversial analysis of JustChat members if I may say so BM. May I offer this to you in reply.
I suspect that what sticks in the throat of most parents is that the mother of Maddie left her unattended in a rented apartment in a foreign country whilst she (and her equally responsible) husband went out for the evening to enjoy themselves.
Yes I see what all the apologists write, and am aware of all the paltry excuses, but the fact is that a RESPONSIBLE parent would NEVER leave their child unattended in those sort of circumstances even for a single moment.
Don’t forget that it was always open to the sainted McCanns to hire a baby sitter for the evening ….. but they deliberately chose NOT to do this. They could equally have had their children in a creche that evening …. but again they specifically chose NOT to do this either.
Instead they didn’t even take the obvious precaution of making certain that the apartment was secure …. by their own admission it was left unlocked !!!!! Great parenting huh???
So their latest PR campaign is to try to blame the local Police for all this ….. presumably this is in between having audiences with the Pope, holding daily photocalls with the world’s press and running back and forth to the Bank to check on and count up the value of all the donations received.
I have a nasty suspicion …. only a suspicion mind you …. that when the answer to all this becomes public – we are all going to be in for a real big shock.
I shall just say ….. told you so !!!

See thats the point isn,t it? They deliberately chose not to use the babysitting service and deliberately chose not to leave them in a creche. They deliberately left the apartment unlocked. Then according to news reports, Mrs McCann, on making her last check and finding Maddie gone, comes running out of the apartment screaming..”they,ve taken her”!
How does she know it was more than one person who took Maddie? Something aint right here. PB is right. We are in for a shock when we find out, “who done it”.13 August, 2007 at 7:10 pm #282144@Bad Manners wrote:

BM no one is laughing at anyone. If anything we are expressing our utter disgust for the appalling way these irresponisble “parents” have acted.
13 August, 2007 at 7:51 pm #282145I have to agree, bat. The ‘They’ve taken her’ reaction was a strange response indeed. For all anybody knew at the time, including Kate (who seems to get more sympathy and time in the media than her husband for some reason) she may well have wandered off by herself. That’s what kids do given the chance so it’s strange that her initial reaction was so, what’s the word, insistent?
Perhaps not, but something similar.
13 August, 2007 at 7:55 pm #282146Is there a correct first reaction to your child going missing then?
Id love to know what it is!
13 August, 2007 at 8:17 pm #282147i agree with BM
Gloaters is the term for such people13 August, 2007 at 8:27 pm #282148this is my opinion:
the mccanns made the biggest mistake of their lives when they left their children alone that night and now they are living with the dreadful consequences. i have every sympathy for them and NO i havent left my kids alone but i know people who have. they stupidly thought that being where they were made them somehow ‘safe’ from the real world. this happens, my mam lives on a lovely friendly, quiet holiday site and she thinks nothing ‘bad’ ever happens there so much so that she went away for the weekend and left her door unlocked!! anyway back on topic.
i saw the mccanns on tv on the ‘heaven and earth show’ and it was moving. they seem to be struggling along every day and we only see little snippets of them every day. they go to church as its a focus for them, something to keep them going. -
