I agree that the lack of apparently accurate and detailed information (caused by the Portuguese secrecy laws) is adding to the speculation and sometimes contradictory reports leaking out into the media.
However, it would appear that, despite the out of hand dismissal by the McCanns, there seems to be a real possibility that they were a lot more involved in this than at first meets the eye.
There is also a growing groundswell of opinion from the general public that this is the case. I gather a BBC phone-in programme had to be cancelled due to the amount of adverse (to the sainted McCanns) calls received.
12 September, 2007 at 12:21 pm #286889I read today that the item the judge wants is Mrs McCanns diary. Also I read in the paper yesterday a coment from another holiday maker who stayed at the same apartment as the McCanns and was in fact in the apartment above them. She said she freqently heard maddie crying for her father. I also read that during questioning, Mrs McCann got extreemly agitated and nearly hysterical and refused point blank to answer some of the questions. Why? Mr McCann says he is “100% certain of his wifes innocence”. Well if you have nothing to hide, why don,t you want to answer the questions?
I read this as well.
Oh and apparantly Mrs McCann has washed the toy of maddies that she,s been clinging too ever since her “abduction”. Maybe because it was smelly you might say, but surely, if your child had been abducted and you had any item that even had the faintest scent of that child on it, you wouldn,t want it washed? It,s a well known fact that when parents loose a child or indeed a spouse, they refuse to change their room or wash anything of that persons, for sometimes, years.12 September, 2007 at 12:29 pm #286890@forumhostpb wrote:

Of course theres a growing groundswell of opinion from the general public when they’re being given incorrect, misleading, inaccurate information.

So what does this prove exactly?
I think most people would be agitated when they’ve just been accused of murdering their Daughter.
Dont think you can blame them for washing the Toy. If the Police were thinking of it as Evidence they had ample time to take it. They didnt, probably another example of their incompotence.
12 September, 2007 at 2:01 pm #286892On a point of accuracy BM – I am not aware that we on these Boards have specifically accused the holy & sainted McCanns of actually ”murdering” their daughter.
What we (who are not members of the McCann’s defence team) HAVE said is that we believe that they were COMPLICIT in their daughter’s death and that they subsequently covered up her death by making the false allegation that she was mysteriously abducted by unknown strangers.
We have also said that we believe that one or both of the holy duo removed her body from the apartment and concealed it elsewhere before calling in the local police and subsequently the world’s Media.
They MAY have murdered her but my belief is that it is more likely that she died ”accidentally”. I absolutley do not believe that she is somewhere on this planet alive and well.
12 September, 2007 at 2:10 pm #286893I didnt say any of you have accused them of murdering their Daughter.
Bat said “Mrs Mc Cann got extremely agitated, and nearly hysterical, and refused to answer questions”. (From the Police)
I repled “I think most people would be agitated when they’ve just been accused of murdering their Daughter”.
Ok what I meant to say was that most people would be agitated when theyve just been accused of accidently killing their Daughter (by the Police).
Slip of the tongue.

I await the trial with baited breath, a supply of cheese sandwiches and one eye on Max Clifford to see if he offers them a *deal* to tell their side of the story. Cynical? Of course I am. But who am I to pour scorn on two loving parents that left their children in an apartment alone. I was interested to see a comment made from one of the parents saying it was no different than sitting in the garden. If you were at home in the garden one would presume that one had a baby monitor so that one could hear ones children. Still, between the Portguese Hillbilly Police Dept and the worlds media, one thing is for sure. They will be tried, sentenced and hung before ever entering a court to defend themselves.
I think this still comes back to the fact that had their child simply wandered in the road and been run over there wouldnt have been such a swell of misguided sympathy, they would clearly have been seen to have caused their childs death and much fewer people would be brainwashed to shower them with empathy and ignore the fact that they quite blatantly caused their childs death even if they didnt do it themselves
But because she was allegedly taken rather than run over they are quite likely to get off scot free, and to that extent of complicity they ARE without any shadow of a doubt guilty before entering a courtroom, any greater degree of guilt or complicity is still indeterminate but what is already quite blatant is more than enough to justify a total lack of compassion for either of them IMO as their guilt and complicity is beyond question as by their own confession we KNOW they for no justifiable reason left three toddlers completely alone and unsupervised in an unlocked apartment in a foriegn country

Fair enough.
I agree with you that most people would be pretty agitated with this exception. The McCanns have spent their every waking minute in promoting the cause of the hunt for Maddie in the Media.
Given my belief (and not yours) that they were complicit …. i reckon that they would get even more agitated as they more than anybody would know that this entire thing was a farrago of lies.

A common reaction to suspicion when trying to hide a lie is to massively overreact due to the subconcious belief that such an overreaction will convince somepeople of the lie and will make others feel too uncomfortable about pursuing the line of enquiry
Discerning however whether a reaction is an “over”reaction tho is the hard part, but with people normally pretty icecold and seemingly emotionless almost any “reaction” would or could be seen as suspicious whether it is or not
12 September, 2007 at 3:43 pm #286897I’ve just had a thought – they could be done for fraud considering all the cash they’ve got from folk to help find Maddie (that’s a lot of binoculars)
That’s a very serious offence.
