I dont for one instant believe that there is total freedom of choice in all countries, that of course is a totally different subject all together. My opinion is, and i do believe with respect to that of Islam, it is forbidden to force anyone to adhere to faith, now again, there are countries which do carry out various acts contrary to their religious doctrine, perhaps they mis-interpret the scriptures, again, a totally seperate debate.
Where force is used against these women, of course it is wrong. There can be no justification for the forcing of anyone to subscribe to any behaviour they dont willingly want to subscribe to… As far as muslim men are concerned, i believe they too are duty bound to refrain from sexual activity before marriage with muslimah`s. They are however, permitted to carry out relations with non- muslimah`s… Now i know this is a hypocritical process, the intimate details of which you may wish to ask of a muslim male, which i AM NOT!
Where there is freedom and choice and such women do subscribe to this operation, then quite simply, they have denied their faith in the actions committed requiring them to have this surgery carried out.2 August, 2010 at 9:31 pm #444439@gazlan wrote:

They are subservient to their religion and to the men in their family, men who incidentially can do whatever they like.

Well i dont doubt this does go on Panda, i myself condemn anyone for taking freedoms away from any person. The upside is, mainly in the western world, although there is slow movement across the Islamic world, there are many organisations now in place to advise and protect just such women, this i endorse fully. If people of faith, took time to disolve and digest their religious duties without that of tradition and culture, then perhaps true freedom and justice could prevail for all…. Somehow, i just dont think i will see it in my lifespan sadly :(
2 August, 2010 at 10:00 pm #444441Religion, hmmm i for one am not overly sure on the whole religion thing, all of them have their own ideas, often cultish some of them, whether it be whats written in a bible or the Qur’an, but either way they have been “written” by a person, and their personal take on things the way they see what they have been told by whatever holiness told them, and often slightly changed with each rewrite, many of them are flawed, i think the most important thing is to have faith a spirituality, a love and understanding of your fellow man. How often have people blown up people in the name of religion how often have you seen a chritsian leave their church and walk by a homeless person with their nose in the air. Religion isnt what defines someone its merely what shackles them to a way they are often born into and as Panda says they often dont have achoice they are guided and sometimes forced into these beliefs.
That said i am fully supportive of every person who chooses to follow a religion with a good and open heart and not on a fanatical level.
Religion has its place and is good for many, and i think should be a guideline not a strict rule book.2 August, 2010 at 10:04 pm #444442@(f)politics? wrote:
