    So . . we have a new topic to debate . . today’s Budget !!!

It appears at first glance that families have been hit hard ! Child benefit frozen, Housing benefit capped ( although I do agree with that one, too many people claim HB living in properties bigger than necessary with high rents ), VAT increased, Other benefits cut, single parents expected to return to work once their youngest child is in school.

I picked a fine time to give up work to return to study

Whilst I agree too many are happy to sit home all day and let the state keep them every situation is different.

Juggling working and childcare and having quality family time is not always easy. Childcare is not readily available and wages often are not enough to cover childcare and travel costs on top of normal household expenses to make it possible to work! I’m also wondering where all the jobs are going to materialise for everyone who is now supposed to go out to work.

I can see a new era of latchkey kids ( which will no doubt produce a new generation of child crime and increased deliquency ).

But hey, it doesn’t matter because they haven’t added any duty to alcohol, tobacco and fuel . . ( and the increased child element of tax credits will help to purchase these items )

I shall revisit this once I have read it thoroughly and digested it properly, this is just a quick overview of what I watched !

Two year public sector pay freeze on staff earning more than £21,000.

    • People earning less than £21,000 will will each receive a flat pay rise worth £250 in each of the two years. WOW not £500 in 2 yr why thats gonna mean after 2 year they’re £9.62 a week better off

    • Operational allowance for troops in Afghanistan doubled to £4,800. Makes dying worthwhile eh

    • Will Hutton to draw up plans for fairer pay across the public sector, without increasing the overall pay bill, so that those at the top of organisations are paid no more than 20 times the salaries of those at the bottom. Only 20 times… the poor dears

    • An independent commission chaired by John Hutton will review public sector pensions. There will also be consultation on scrapping default retirement age. That’ll save paying out pensions

    • Rise in the state pension age to 66 will be accelerated. see above

VAT to increase to 20% on 4 January next year. Will generate over £13bn a year of extra revenues. that’ll bother the rich

They can blame the state the labour government left us in (so they say) and come the next election will have raised enough money to stick in a couple of tax reducing budgets and get re-elected. VAT is supposed to be on so called luxury goods, things the poor can’t afford in the first place.

Well when all the public sector workers get pee’d off at being penalised for working where they do and get jobs in the private sector instead, there’ll be lots of jobs up for grabs.

    (I’m being facetious of course)

This is the first budget I have genuinly dreaded, since I’ve been an adult.

The VAT increase will cripple already struggling small businesses.

The only reason ciggies havn’t gone up is because the baccy companies have just increased their prices literally over the last few weeks. Funny that ain’t it?
