Your reg key should be some where on the case of the pc, for most laptops its on the bottem.
I don’t like what you are trying to do, it causes more problems than its worth.
Run it in saft mode, take off all the files you need and get a pro to look at it.
4 August, 2008 at 4:06 pm #359602I found the registry key, but its no good as I cant get net access.
Its also really silly that you cant legally download a Windows XP to a disk if you have a legitimate copy installed on the pc and you have the key. I could download it for him from my pc and onto a disk and re-install/repair it for him. But….. its illegal!
Tonight he has the task of downloading all his itunes onto disks (I managed to access that in safe mode) and I have all his disks to re-instal all the important things.
Im gonna wipe the thing clean and load an ILLEGAL copy of windows XP pro on there, cos Im that peed off, so up Bill Gates orifice.
4 August, 2008 at 6:09 pm #359603Er … you really ought to be very very careful before you load an “illegal” copy of Windows XP. Uncle Bill’s chaps have several ways of verifying whether or not your system is properly licensed – one of them is the Microfift Genuine Advantage Verification tool that checks your PC’s configuration every time you use Windows update – and if you are running an “illegal” copy, they can terminate certain functions for you. Hmmmmm!!!!
IF he is running Windows XP Home then you can “borrow” a recovery disk OR use a full retail copy (BUT this MUST be XP Home) to re-instal the Operating System from scratch. You need to have the unique 25 alpha/numeric digit license number that is usually stuck onto the PC’s case at the rear.
To do this you do NOT need to have internet access, but you can allow the new installation to configure access for you as it instals.
4 August, 2008 at 6:22 pm #359604well… its not an illegal copy, as in really illegal…. its the copy I used to format my own pc, borrowed from a techy friend. Ive had it verified through my system, so Im willing to take the risk.
I cant get hold of it for a few days cos he happens to be a helicopter pilot and its tricky tracking him down, but he has a message waiting for his return (and he is NO relation to our own UK pilot).
That gives me time to take note of all the drivers and save documents to disks etc which we have started and Ive found a few helpful sites that I didnt have access to when I did it a couple of years ago, so wont be doing it blind so to speak.
If that doesnt work, Im gonna do what my neighbour did with her telly today… drop it and claim on the insurance.
5 August, 2008 at 10:03 pm #359605you are more then welcome to download any cope of xp, aslong as you use a licence key that you have paid for
if you have a copy of xp, use that, when it comes to entering the reg use the one that came with your computer (the one you found) .. when it asks to to activate or registry windows .. choose an option that says you want to do it on the phone just follow the instructions, it will be activated and all working within 5 mins
failing that, i can ship you down a copy of Vista, Xp or Windows 98 if you are really desperate, fully hacked and in working condition, i’ll send it along with the ocs cd :)
5 August, 2008 at 10:26 pm #359606Ok matty, go for it. Windows 2055 xxpywv will be out by the time they arrive, but it never bothers me being a wee bit behind everybody else.
5 August, 2008 at 10:52 pm #359607better late then never I say, I am going to send you a live gig from ocs, i’ve decided, i could just send you the link to download it on the net, but that would be cheating
5 August, 2008 at 11:05 pm #359608Its nicer to get it through the post. Ive been sat on the bottom stair every morning for nearly two years waiting for that cd, knowing that one day… today could be the day…..
