OK. Im doing a real lifey styley post here so dont all shoot me down.

My kids have been off school for what seems like a bloody year with this fluey/coldy virusy thing. I call it that cos its not a cold and it aint flu.

Billy (youngest) got sent home a week ago today feeling sick. Got home, cried, vomited and cried a bit more. Then…. his temperature went over 101d… quite worrying.

Called the doctor on Friday morning to say he had a temp and wasnt well enough to come to the doctors. I was told a Doctor would ring us back at some point that day.

Gave him the calpol and kiddy ibuprofen stuff to bring it down. You could feel the heat rising from his body he was that bad.

Got through the weekend and he went back to school on Tuesday (us thinking it was the coldy/fluey virus). (all this still waiting for the Doctor to ring back).

Tuesday night/Wednesday morning from 1am he cried all night in pain/agony from ear-ache. Dave came home from work yesterday morning absolutely shattered and I went to work when he got in giviing him instructions.

He phoned the doctors and this was the basic conversation:

“hello, my son is 10 years old, has had a virus for a while and has been up all night crying in pain from ear-ache…. can I bring him down now on an emergency basis to see a Doctor?”

“No, Mr T, please ring tomorrow and I will fix you an appointment for next week”

“IM Sorry, but did you just hear me………… he is ten years old and is in agony”

“Yes Mr T, I heard you and I’ve told you what to do”

“F**k you Im f**king coming down there noW”.

At this point Im in work, Dave phones me and tells me what has just happened and explained that the receptionist was a foreign speaking male, so thats already got his back up.

I sat there at my desk and thought fook, he is going to go mental!!

Anyway he got there and theres this big black fella sitting at the reception. Dave was in his face:

“Are you the bloke who just told me I cant bring my son here”

    “are you Billys dad?”

    “yer”

“If you would like to come around here and look at my screen you will see we are fully booked”

(SHOUTING NOW) “I dont give a flying fook about your screen, my fooking son needs to see a doctor NOW…….. My grandfather did not fight in world war 2 for his great grand-son to be turned away from his own doctors when he really needs to fooking see one, this country is goin to the fooking dogs and if you dont let him see a fooking doctor now you will be wearing that fooking screen”

At this point Dave’s veins in his neck were on the point of needing medical help, as they were about to burst!

The funniest thing happened, all the front row of waiting patients (all oldies) started clapping!! I suspect they overheard the telephone conversation and half expected Dave to walk in, so that gave him a bit of a boost that he hadnt overstepped the mark.

A young female came out to assist the other receptionist and said

“hold on a moment Mr Taylor while I have a word with the Doctor”

“Thankyou” dave said, getting his breath

    Receptionist returned:

“The Doctor will see your son in ten minutes, there are two before you, then its you”.

    “Thankyou very much”.

So……………….. Dave managed to get my youngest to the doctor. Was he right to act in that way, or should he have tolerated the way he was treated by the little Hitler AKA Doctors Receptionist.

As it turned out Billy had an ear infection. He NEEDED antiboitics now, not next week.

I see a lot of claims come and go where I work in the court, some take the piss, some are more serious, but its no surprise that its the jobsworths that cause mistakes to happen in the NHS and this = millions lost in unnecessary compo claims year in year out.

Anyway….. Dave got home, had a cuppa, and fell asleep  bless 8)

Should I have put this in general gos? If so you can move it (you scarlet pimpernal hosts!)

:D Sharon, your hubby deserves a huge pat on the back for that……..maybe a few more of us general public should take that kind of stand…..grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

How dare the recep take that attitude, when they have medical training they can decide if the person does/does not require urgent treatment.

    Well done =D> =D>=D>=D>

So your hubby burst into the Doctor’s surgery in a rage, swore repeatedly at the receptionist, and threatened him with physical violence – all in front of other patients who were unwell – and then forced his way into the queue to see a doctor ahead of all those who had made an appointment in the correct way.

He’s very lucky that he was seen at all and that the Police weren’t called to intervene.

Most NHS doctor’s surgeries have a policy that they will not tolerate their staff being abused or assaulted. They have the right to immediatly remove the patient from their list and refuse to treat abusive patients.

On a more positive note, if a child (or an adult for that matter) becomes seriously ill and it isn’t possible to get an apppointment with a doctor on an urgent basis, then you can always ring NHS Direct for advice. Their telephone number is …..NHS Direct 0845 4647

They also have a most helpful and informative website which is at:

Sharon both my kids have been off school all week as well. They,ve got a bad cold, sore throat and my daughter has an ear infection. Very painful yes. Upsetting for mum to see kids upset and in pain, of course. Nine times out of ten however, these things are caused by a common old virus. Antibiotics dont work. I,m sorry, you can shoot me if you like I,m used to it lol, but I think your husband was well out of order, going down there, shouting at the staff. They dont have to take abuse from anyone, and they would have been well within their rights to call the police and have your husband forcibly removed, AND they would be well within their rights to take you off of their patient list and refuse to treat you. I know, how upsetting it is when your kids are ill, trust me I do. My youngest once had a very bad case of tonsilitis, and had a fit at school because his temperature got so high. He was carted off to hospital in an ambulance. At the end of the day, all he had, was an ear infection and a bad cold. No excuse to go storming down to the surgery and yell at the staff. All you can do is give them calpol and lots of juice and hugs from mum. If, however, their temp got extreemly high, say, 103 plus, then you can ring an out of hours doctor if the surgery is shut OR, if your that worried, take them to your local A&E. But dont go steaming in there, demanding that your kid be seen first before everyone else, and abuse the staff. Doesnt matter how old your kids are, you never stop worrying about them.my eldest is 18 . Sorry Sharon, I know you were worried, but your husband was out of order, IMO. Did it even occur to him, whilst he was ranting and raving, that there may well have have been another mum, sat there with her child, who felt equally unwell, also with an ear infection, patiently waiting their turn to see the doctor like everyone else?

Next time just take your kid up to A&E and tell them you have been trying for a week to see a doctor.

After that, your doctor will always see you.

I dont disagree with any of your points, I wouldnt have posted it if I expected everybody to agree whether this was right or wrong.

I was really wanting to share what happened to push Dave so far as to act like this, which believe me was totally out of charachter.

There was a lot more to the conversations than I stated above, Dave did say he would be willing to wait all day if it meant seeing a Doctor when he was on the phone, but the receptionist was so unhelpful in his manner and unproffesional and also rude. Ive no doubt this contributed to the way Dave handled it.

I also think I contributed to it, as its normally me who does all this sort of stuff…. leave it to the bloke and this is what happens lol!!

Billy was prescribed penicilin for his ear infection. I understand what you are saying Bat about the cold virus being untreatable, but an ear infection must be treated. Im deaf in one ear due to having so many ear infections that resulted in a growth being removed when I was younger so I do know what I am talking about. Calpol alone will not get rid of an ear infection, medical intervention is needed asap.

PB, Im very aware of NHS direct and do have their number on my mobile, but Im sure they would have said that we would need to see our GP, so I didnt call them, but thanks for the reminder.

There were two people before Dave to see the GP, the rest of the patients (5) were either there to see the Nurse or the other GP. Dave spoke to all the other patients whilst waiting (he knew most of them anyway) and even apologised to a few for causing a scene, and all sympathised and also shared with him his feelings over this particular receptionist and the lack of proffesionalism/people skills.

I told Dave what has been said on here and his response was well, if the receptionist had been a bit more understanding none of it would have happened and I believe that to be true.

I cant condone what he did, and I cannot say it was right, but of coure you must understand I have to stand by my man, and at the end of the day he got Billy what he needed (although a bit unethical in the way he did),and he is now on the mend after missing so much school due to this awful virus which seems to be hitting so many this year.

I also rand her doctors who was normal great with her but they couldn’t get her in the docs for over a week

Said make sure she is warm and eating well …………… Mom was a stubborn git wouldn’t let me take her the hospital said there’s people worse off than me who need the doctors more than i do

I no being racnul its not why she died but maybe if i had made a scene and got her in the doctors she might still be with me now

No, this is for serious posts, and you made a serious point about the lack of patient understanding in the NaziHS.

Just the fact that your son was allowed to see a doctor within ten mins explains what a nightmare NHS employment system we have. Slayer works there FFS!

Anychance of an audio of the conversations…

Yesterday, it was reported on our local news, that hundreds of jobs are going in 2 hospitals.

New labour have messed up BIG time, they just dont know how to run a successfull society. What they are great at, is blagging the public for their hard earned vote.

I hope you guys take heed of sharon’s nightmare. If we didn’t have all kinds of foreign war torn people using up our precious resources, sharon’s son would’ve suffered less pain.
