Little Donkey writer dies aged 88
Eric Boswell, writer of the popular Christmas song Little Donkey, has died.
The 88-year-old, from Sunderland, penned the carol 50 years ago, and it became a hit for artists including Gracie Fields and the Beverley Sisters.
Tyneside-based music producer Ken McKenzie, who first met the composer in the 1970s, said he had been very proud of the success of his “simple song”.
Mr Boswell, who spent his last months in a Northumberland nursing home, died at Hexham General Hospital on Sunday.
I remember both my children singing this song in the nativity…….sweet memories

Wonder if anyone has read this without singing the first couple of lines of the carol.
Funny how something relatively simple can touch so many people’s lives.

Oh dear, only this morning i awoke humming little donkey. Rip to the legend. How will the world cope with such a lost. Thanks Pete for sharing.

This man took an ordinary Donkey, and turned it into an Icon. Not many of us can say we’ve done that!

I won’t say much, (Don’t want to boast).. but t’was when my aunt Polly came to visit, and No-one would make her tea.., I sat there with a pen and paper, and it hit me! Don’t ask me who the f**k Suki is though, because she definately weren’t there!
