I have had a think and decided that it was silly of me to even comment on this thread.  The whole thing is totally ridiculous.

I have two kids not much younger than her so why on earth am i even engaging in such silliness.

My mum is nearly 80 and has lived a much more sheltered life than me.  I have had much ‘life experience at 43’ i still believe she knows a hell of a lot more about the world and life than i do.

So i retract all comments even this one.

Wont even bother reading any more comments to this thread.

Would delete all my comments if it were possible.

    As you all were .

    Never mind the bollox

As do I Mooosey88, I’m not thinking I know loads, I dont. I put this thread as to try learn other life lessons from other people in different circumstances. I dont know why Mizzy has that attitude towards it as it was meant with no malice what so ever.

Slightly on a tangent, but I wonder how a stereotypical 40 year old from the UK today would cope if they were whisked up in a time machine and dumped back 200 years ago. Or alternatively how that 40 year olds life experience and the lessons that they have learned from it, would be relevant working on a rubbish tip for 18 hours a day in Rio.

surely all experiences are relevant to the life you live, wherever that may be ?

Absolutely. Which is why age is irrelevant.

Nope,    not sure I agree there Gez  .My point was, sorta,,, the longer you have worked on a rubbish dump in Rio, the more experience of it you have, maybe the better knowledge you have gleaned as to, maybe, what time of day is best, what areas are best etc. I’m not saying that someone young may not have perhaps, seen more of the world, travelled maybe, than someone older, my point is what ever your walk in life, the longer you have done it the more knowledge you have of it, more experience of it. So I guess in my own way I am saying longevity does count as far as experience goes.. ….. I think ……

Moose you know me well enough to know I am not defending Dixie per se. It is more a general point. My angle because I didn’t explain it, is coming from the viewpoint that young people are actually patronized in our society today by the older generation/s. Not that that is anything new, it isn’t.

After the election the baby boom generation were fuming that Corbyn had won such a large % of the vote. Bribed young people they cried. Yet their generation enjoyed access to free education and access to housing and access to full employment etc etc.Of course young people became more engaged in politics because finally a politician recognized their value to society.

I would argue and I will, that young people are under more societal pressure and stress today, than they were 40 years ago and therefore to suggest age is a factor in life experience now, is irrelevant in that context. Obviously a mother has far more experience of mothering and a father fathering, but it doesn’t actually mean they have far more life experience overall, etc in the context of modern technology and comparing the pressure young people are under today in an internet connected, fast moving, connected world compared to the world their parents grew up in. :mail:

. And a 90 year old has every right to say to a 40 year old ‘ive got more experience in life than you have’ they have been on this planet a lot longer so in my opinion – they have. .

Absolutely , I prefer the company of elderly people as on balance they have acquired more knowledge throughout their life. I don’t mind 19 year olds  like the OP having views contrasting with mine – each to their own and all that but ones preaching from a pulpit copying and pasting regurgitated rubbish to educate us all just irritates

Any poster is patronised posting claptrap found on a social media site which is about as relevant to the real world as visiting pixies at the bottom of the garden. Most people over a certain age know the world doesn’t operate in a way described by the OP unless you have your head in the clouds or live in a dark cave somewhere.

Gez, my point has nothing to do with Dixie , sorry I was under the impression we were having a general discussion on Life Experiences. I’m not discussing Politics either. My point is that it doesn’t matter when you were born etc etc,  One person cannot say that the pressure next doors lad is under now is any worse than a student 30 years ago as its all relevant to the time we lived in. In the same way that nobody can say one mans pain is worse than another mans pain. Its, in my opinion, not measurable. Yes in some ways there is more pressure, as in its harder to buy a house now, in other ways its a much more affluent society, they all have smart phones and laptops as standard etc etc. Its impossible to compare and decide as you cant put someone in a time machine and then ask them which is harder ? It can only be measured in real time. My point really is one of mathematics as much as anything. A 2 year old child has twice as much experience of the world around it than a 1 year old child, be that today , 30 years ago or 100 years ago. So whether you work on a rubbish tip in Rio, are an Oxford graduate, now or 50 years ago, the longer you have experienced the ” world you live in at that time” the more ‘Life Experience ‘ you have !
