…. and why, if you can
Sophies World – Jostein Gaarder.
Read it while travelling in New Zealand, it opened my eyes to philosophy.
Roots – Alex Hailey.
Deserves a complete thread of it`s own, evoked every emotion possible in me, blew me away this book, made me question so much yet gave me back beleif in human nature and so much more.
Grapes of Wrath – John Steinbeck.
Adore the way he writes and grieve for the loss of connection to the land.
Am going to read the Koran next :)
10 September, 2011 at 6:25 pm #477562Read the Grapes of Wrath many years ago………excellent book but then I think Steinbeck is a great read……..

12 September, 2011 at 10:47 am #477563Nick Hornby – A long way down.
It is a dark comedy, playing off the themes of suicide, angst, depression and promiscuity.
The story is written in the first-person narrative from the points of view of the four main characters, Martin, Maureen, Jess and JJ. These four strangers happen to meet on the roof of a high building called Topper’s House in London on New Year’s Eve, each with the intent of committing suicide. Their plans for death in solitude, however, are ruined when they meet. The novel recounts their misadventures as they decide to come down from the roof alive – however temporarily that may be.
28 September, 2011 at 4:15 pm #477564It wasn’t life changing but it got me back into reading again and its a fab book…
The Lovely Bones!
the film is shockingly bad and doesn’t do the book justice!
29 September, 2011 at 8:14 pm #477565Love the book Mel, couldn`t watch the film. Thought the book was wonderful, the film creepy.
Recently read Unravelled by the woman who wrote Hannahs Gift, and Blue like Jazz by Donald Miller, both of which have stopped me in my tracks. Wonderful books.
3 October, 2011 at 11:34 am #477566The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho…the right book at the right time, summed up as what you’re looking for in life is often right in front of you but sometimes you have to search everywhere else before you realise it.
5 October, 2011 at 11:01 pm #477567Not so much life changing but it was a really good book, The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruis Zafon, its an amazing book in my opinion

Try The Raging Quiet – Sheryl Jordan
Is the most beautiful book I’ve ever read. A new perspective on discrimination and judging people and situations without just cause. I read it when I was about 13 and I have never got it out of my head.
