I don’t believe ISIL represents Islam…it represents a minority of pretty screwed up people who want to twist a religion to their own ends. It just so happens that in this case the religion is Islam; they could have chosen any religion and twisted it in the same way.
I’m sure you’re right about the motivation, Jen. Lenin/Stalin and Nasser used to be the rallying point for radicals in the Middle East. The failure of both means that people are drawn to radical Islam (the Iranian revolution of 1979 seems to have been the key here). What makes ISIS stand out is the fear they create everywhere (deliberate terror in the genuine sense of the word) and the military success of a group which adapts to the desert and runs elsewhere rather than gets caught in a standing battle. I fear the US bombing may well be increasing the appeal of this particular bunch of medieval mullahs.
As a set of ideas, it belongs to the same set as the millenarian Christians who believe that Christ is about to return – in this case that the true Caliph has arrived. They claim to be the true Moslems, and pledge to kill all heretics. Iran, whose leaders also think that the new age is about to dawn, hate them as deadly heretics.
BB seems to agree with ISIS in its assessment of itself, which indicates he may have an agenda. As did his refusal to condemn the EDL (the vigilantes who see Islam as an enemy to be expelled form our beloved white land) in the previous thread s/he set up. (hmm wonders whther he thinks there was a holocaust :?: )

10 November, 2014 at 7:09 am #523925BB – I think you’re supposed to put that on user’s pics, not here. You look as though you’re having some problems in grasping the issues, but no surprise really. Best stick to making comments on how good or bad some people are, and keep off the serious issues :D
10 November, 2014 at 7:40 pm #523926Lol, I’ll just trust that you’re coming across as transparent to others as you are to me, that’s all.
We have a lot to talk about yet :D
10 November, 2014 at 8:19 pm #523927So when are you going to start talking?
Anyone can start a potentially contentious thread then sit back and watch.10 November, 2014 at 8:39 pm #523928@jen_jen wrote:

10 November, 2014 at 8:49 pm #523929I’m not sure what the point is right now…maybe BB will enlighten us…then again, maybe not.
11 November, 2014 at 12:40 pm #523930Well since BB has signed in and not posted, I assume we won’t be enlightened…
