How long have you two been friends :)
1 June, 2017 at 10:06 am #1048195Oh god she’s back again lecturing us all . Soph I agree – 15 years that’s nothing to the life time of damage that “doctor” did to his patients emotionally , physically & mentally. He preyed on the vulnerability of women & lined his pockets in the process. Thankfully incidents like this should soon cease to be & there is the 2 week referral process for ALL suspected cancer cases. So having private medical cover gets you seen & if necessary treated any faster these days in the UK at least.
Lecturing no one, I have the right to an opinion as much as anyone/everyone else does.

He offered to remove them, and the patients accepted. Nothing was done against their will, so what exactly is he being charged with?

A rogue breast surgeon who carried out a series of needless operations on patients has been jailed for 15 years.
Ian Paterson was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court after he was found guilty of 17 counts of wounding with intent, leaving his victims scarred and disfigured.
Judge Jeremy Baker told Paterson he was driven by his “own self-aggrandisement and the material rewards which it brought from your private practice”.
The judge said: “You deliberately played upon their worst fears, either by inventing or deliberately exaggerating the risk that they would develop cancer, and thereby gained their trust and confidence to consent to the surgical procedures which you carried out upon them.”
A Freedom of Information request revealed that 68 women who underwent a CSM – in which part of the breast tissue is not removed, and can increase the risk of the disease returning – by Paterson on the NHS had gone on to develop a recurrence of breast cancer.
Figures also revealed that the NHS has paid out nearly £18m, of which £9.5m was damages, following claims from nearly 800 of Paterson’s patients – a fact that the jury were not made aware of during proceedings.

Did the patients not sign conracts that consented to the surgery being done?
The judge said: “You deliberately played upon their worst fears, either by inventing or deliberately exaggerating the risk that they would develop cancer, and thereby gained their trust and confidence to consent to the surgical procedures which you carried out upon them.”
And I suppose they couldn’t get a second opinion from another doctor, or researched the risks for themselves uing the internet?
He should not be allowed to practice medicine anympre, but I am still not convicned that anything he did was a crime.
This doesn’t even rule out the possibility that he is just an idiot, and doesn’t know what a lipoma is. I’ve spoken to several doctors that were completely wrong on subjects they were suppose to be specialised.

Different papers give different figures regarding the claims – this one says over 700, yet you said it was nearly 800? Over 700 could be 701 as much as 799 – wonder why you needed to make it almost 800, instead of adding ‘over 700’as in the paper?
See Gerry, it’s people like you exagerrating the truth that make such cases happen.
I’m not saying the man’s a saint, but I am saying that people jump on the bandwagon at the first sniff of money and the possibility of making it..as you have just given proof of doing (jumping on the bandwagon) in your post regarding the claimants.

Just like Dr Blossom, another expert on the subject, my apologies.

1 June, 2017 at 12:34 pm #1048242I will try to clarify what I have said, because I know some perople will try to misrepresent me. I am not trying to defend his actions, I am querstioning the legal system, as I see this more as an emotional response rather than a reasoned decision made on existing laws and precidents.

He obviously employed the wrong legal team. He should have employed you and Dr Blossom.
