Define true. You’re missing the point im making. John won the snooker final, he won the trophy and the money.
Thats not being the true best player. The true best player plays the game in a manner that makes him more respectable to the purists of the game.
Football isnt man utd or rochdale.
Football is a game.
Snooker is a game, it is not a trophy or prize money.
10 May, 2007 at 9:49 am #269247no.. the best player player won.. meaning he is champion.. mark selby was the runner up.. 2nd.. not 1st.. but 2nd.. regardless of who he is or what he does, hes not the world champion
records in 30 years time won’t read
2007 world champion – john higgins
2007 true world champion – mark selby10 May, 2007 at 10:47 am #269248Thats right, john won the final, he is the world snooker champion, he won the trophy and the biggest cheque, but Mark won the prize of playing the game for the love of.

a true champion is the person who wins the title, what do you want john to do.. stand up at the end and say
no wait, sorry people.. i can’t accept this trophy, i’m going to give it to mark because he is the true champion, een though he lost i feel he battled brave, and though hes not as skill full as me, i feel he deserves it more
no wait.. infact.. i’ll give it to matty… ok, hes not played this year, but hes a true champion, he got a break of 11 at his local club last week, but he was ever so brave
I agree Mate.
Selby’s by no means some amateur playing for the “love of the game” and his travelling expenses like Emma’s made out. He’ll get a tidy sum for being runner up. That’s his Job.
I honestly cant remember Selby walking aroung with a big constant smile on his face, and John Higgins walking around with a big frown, but hey maybe I was watching a different final.10 May, 2007 at 11:22 pm #269250@Bad Manners wrote:

Selby played the game, for the love of, with the biggest smile, MORE than any other.
That does NOT mean he did this ALL the time, or most of the time, just more than anyone else.
Higgy higgins looked deadly serious for most of the tournament, and i only seen him smile/laugh when selby made him do so.
Sport in society is mostly about what sport isnt, money, greed, power and more of that.
Sport is not about those things, when we play games, the idea is to have fun first, weve been tuned to ignore that.
Very sad.
Neutrals go with man u over chelsea, why, because they play the game for fun more so.
10 May, 2007 at 11:55 pm #269251Well, I cant remember it like that. Even if was like that who cares?
Nastase and Agassi and a few others liked to clown and “smile” on a Tennis court. Pete Sampras didnt. He was clinical, effecient and all-buisness when he got on a court.
Did it make him any less a Champion? Absolutely not.11 May, 2007 at 9:43 am #269252steve davis.. legend.. he never messed about around the snooker table.. which got him the label of mr intresting… but thats because he took the sport and game seriously… meet him in the street however, hes full of personailty
higgins likes to have a laugh too outside the arena, he takes the sport he loves serious.. and a true champion is somone who wants to win, and who is’nt there just to have a good time

When you go to work, do you do it for the love of, or to earn money.
Who would you rather watch, davis v hendry, or jimmy white v o’sullivan?
11 May, 2007 at 11:08 pm #269254That dosent matter.
Davis and Hendry are the two most successful players in the history of Snooker. That’s all that matters.11 May, 2007 at 11:15 pm #269255@Bad Manners wrote:

People who answer like that, are scared of answering the question.

Absolutely, if what you care about more, is winning for the sake of winning.
I’d rather play to enjoy myself first and foremost.
