Has been an eye opener for me.
It has confirmed doubts I had about some, and given me insight on those I’d never chatted to in the room.
Would be interesting to know who’s who in the room and on boards, for those using different names, but I guess that will never happen with many being cowards.
Well done to all
24 March, 2017 at 1:53 pm #1027610those dam negative nancys in f3 and desperate dans in f1 have made me use f2 more and more. and me and ann was chatting in f2 today.
26 March, 2017 at 3:47 pm #1027972I use the rooms as well as the boards but nowhere near as much as I used to. Over the years friends have come and gone for various reasons and chat has become less important. It’s still as good a ‘mental chewing gum’ as it ever was and helps to de-stress after a hard day at work. Using it less means I’m out of touch but sometimes that’s not a bad thing.

5 April, 2017 at 3:58 pm #1031313Just come across your post above, tinks.
One of the most sensible I’ve read. I liked the phrase ‘mental chewing gum’.
I was really isolated when I first came to jc, but in the last few years I’ve built up gradually a small circle of friends, and feel a lot better nowadays. I don’t care about the cliques and their schoolyard tactics any more.
Using it less means I’m out of touch but sometimes that’s not a bad thing.
I hope you’re well. It sounds like it from your post.
5 April, 2017 at 4:48 pm #1031360Hey scep I’m very well thank you and enjoying the two week school holiday.
We all have our reasons why we join….back in 2003 I had way too much time on my hands and JC became a good ‘time killer’ as well as a chance to speak to some really interesting and at times hilarious people. Now I don’t seem to have enough time…..I should change that.
5 April, 2017 at 5:06 pm #1031369Yeah, well, my experience was that unless you’re prepared to put in the time in the chatroom, just sit there and talk about no matter what, you’re not going to establish connections with the people there. That’s why, to outsiders, they come across as quite uninteresting and cliquish.
I did find some of the people hilarious, but whether that was because I was new here or not I don’t know.
I hope you haven’t fallen into the schoolteacher’s trap of alcoholism.
The other thing I noticed about teachers is that whenever they relax together over a drink and a meal they talk about pupils and essay-marking.
‘Twas ever thus.
