Right so I got a new laptop yesterday (it worked again pats   ) and I adore it, and almost phoned in sick today so I could stay home and build our relationship, but I was good and managed to break the bond lol
So I went out lunch time to Argus and brought some swanky speakers and a sub woofer and couldnt wait to show my new lappy what Id got him.
How gutted was I when I connected all the speakers to the woofer to then realise that three leads then wanted to connect to lappy, when lappy only had one hole?! No usb, no alternative, I could have cried!
So my question is… I think there may be two options here. Is there a device that I can buy to plug the three plugs into that converts to one to go in the mic hole, or do I tak the lot back to argus and get a set that has usb?
I hope Ive made that clear….
Isnt laptop sound rubbish, its worse than a 1940’s radio at the moment.

i got similar to
and theres only one lead which goes into the comp… not usb though
3 October, 2008 at 9:12 pm #377603right Ive not worked out how to get links and stuff, but they are philips SPA2600 multimedia speakers 5.1.
I had a fiddle and messed around with trying just one of the speakers, alternating the leads etc, but no joy.
3 October, 2008 at 9:15 pm #377604Its the sound card on the laptop. The speaker set you have just brought is for a desk top computer.
Take them back and get a usb set.
3 October, 2008 at 9:17 pm #377605In the description they are suitable for MP3, laptop, PC, other devices… what a con.
I wanted to have a party.
3 October, 2008 at 9:24 pm #377606Well on the new laptops, the sound card has been cut back. Theirs a line out for head phones and one in for a mic. On my desktop sound card there are 5 lines out, and one is marked for “sub woofer”. Not that its been used, I’ve found usb speakers far better than my old ones.

Yes, ive only the two lines out as you describe.
So, usb it is then.
Do you know if you can get decent wireless ones, or are they no good?

Well I have logitech Squeezebox Wireless Speaker System at home, but its not cheap at £250. (It was a freebie, I would never have paid that for a set of pc speakers.)The best one is Z Cinéma Advanced Surround Sound System from Logitech, but again its not cheap.
You need to think about how much you are going to spend and what you’re going to use them for.
I think the best thing you can do is get a cheap set of usb speakers.
3 October, 2008 at 10:27 pm #377609Well at that price range I think your right, and know me well!
The ones I bought today were 50 quid, which was my top limit really. I liked them because the specs were all good on wattage etc, but in the catalogue there is no spec for usb etc.
I may have to visit the electrical stores rather than get them in town, so I can actually be sure they are USB.
First off I have to take these back. I even tried them in the telly, but couldnt get it to work. All the colour coding is wrong.. I was left with orange, black and yellow… rather than the usual combination of three plugs if you get my drift.
I want them for music in the front room, so I can move the stereo. All my music is now on my lappy, so I may as well make the most of it.
