I am delighted that your solution worked. I had to do this once with a new XP Op system as the receiver and an old Win 98SE as the donor using a ‘crossover’ cable and it was a long drawn out nightmare.
Owen may I comment of your helpful defragmenting link?
Microsoft’s defragmenting tool that comes bundled with Windows XP (Home or Pro) is not particularly good. It’s pretty slow and if anything is running in the background it has a tendency to abort.
I use a defragmenter from Executive Software called ”Diskeeper”. If you go to http://www.diskeeper.com/diskeeper/diskeeper.asp you will find out all about it. I use the ‘Pro’ version but I can highly recommend it as it can fully defrag a disk in a fraction of the time that Microsoft’s offering takes and it isn’t sensitive to other applications running at the same time so it won’t abort half way through due to ”disk activity”.
Give it a try.
