Now you should run the defragmentation tool on hubbys laptop.

Run this once a week to keep any kind of computer running smooth as silk.31 January, 2006 at 10:05 am #185562I am delighted that your solution worked. I had to do this once with a new XP Op system as the receiver and an old Win 98SE as the donor using a ‘crossover’ cable and it was a long drawn out nightmare.
Owen may I comment of your helpful defragmenting link?
Microsoft’s defragmenting tool that comes bundled with Windows XP (Home or Pro) is not particularly good. It’s pretty slow and if anything is running in the background it has a tendency to abort.
I use a defragmenter from Executive Software called ”Diskeeper”. If you go to http://www.diskeeper.com/diskeeper/diskeeper.asp you will find out all about it. I use the ‘Pro’ version but I can highly recommend it as it can fully defrag a disk in a fraction of the time that Microsoft’s offering takes and it isn’t sensitive to other applications running at the same time so it won’t abort half way through due to ”disk activity”.
Give it a try.
31 January, 2006 at 10:09 am #185563I use Diskeeper too, but I don’t like to recommend anything that people have
to pay for. :wink:31 January, 2006 at 10:21 am #185564Yes I can understand that – but I prefer to leave it up to the individual user to decide if they want to pay or not.
This software is really good and I think it is worth the money. I have Diskeeper 9.0 Pro and it cost me $49.50 (tha’s US dollars NOT Pounds Sterling).
If you are uncertain about spending the money ”blind” there is a Trialware version which is FOC for a time limited period.
