In Wandsworth, London they have built some homes for key workers. These flat’s are being sold half price to key workers who earn up to £60,000 a year.
In my opinion if you earn £60,000, key worker or not there are other people who could prob do with help more than you.Although you would prob have to pay me £60,000 to live in Wandsworth

I also know that there are flats built near me just finished for key workers and are being let out for private rent, brought by key worker’s on the cheap to be used as buy to let which i think is wrong. They are earning a profit at the cost to the Tax Payer.

    sorry just wondered

As a tax payer I do of course agree that it’s wrong. It’s the lower-paid key workers, ie most of them, which do need housing help though

two of the houses built where I live were sold to key workers I think they are both in the medical profession, the wives are nurses. They are part buy part rent though, they still had to stump up a hefty wedge for the mortgage (83 grand) and still pay rent to the housing association.

Perhaps this is the same sort of thing?

I think its a good idea. It seems to be fairly successfel at attracting people into areas that have such a difficult time getting positions filled in the key professions. The other idea would be for the government to just pay teachers, nurses, policemen and firemen more money! Now there is an interesting concept.

that has far too much “common sense” to even be considered!

Nope they just buy half the house and thats it. the builders were given the land free by the government under some sort of deal thats how they can build so cheap.

I have just got a issue with the £60,000 a year cut off point. It should be lower. there are key workers only on 15 or 20 a year.
