Firstly congratulation to Kate and Wills on their good news (not because I’m a Royalist but because I believe in congratulating any couple who have just announced their good news).

Now that’s out of the way…I can’t believe how unsympathetic people are about her extreme morning sickness, aka hyperemesis gravidarum. Comments such as “pampered”, “if she had a cold they’d be treating her for pneumonia”, “I had morning sickness, normal people just have to get on with it”…well actually no, normal people with hyperemesis gravidarum do not just get on with it.

My sister had this with her first child and this is not normal morning sickness. She couldn’t keep anything down, not even a glass of water. Everyday smells would trigger it, she couldn’t bear the smell of anything cooking, cleaning products, perfume…all would send her to the bathroom – if she could make it. Normal life was put on hold, she couldn’t go anywhere, she was constantly fighting dehydration, she lost nearly three stone and was becoming dangerously underweight as she wasn’t exactly padded in the first place. Like Kate, she was hospitalised, enforced bed rest and rapid rehydration but the sickness went on throughout the pregnancy. She was hospitalised several times because the dehydration and weight loss were putting her and her baby in danger.

Just morning sickness? Get on with it? Yeah right!

I am not a Royal superfan, but I certainly do not dislike Wills and Kate just because they are who they are, they come across a lovely young couple, pretty savvy and I really would not say pampered to the extent traditionally Royals have been. By all accounts they live alone, Kate is a normal wife and cooks cleans and shops for them both (so I have read). Lovely news about the baby, I am sure it will give lots of people something to smile about, just as the Royal Wedding did.
We have a monarchy in this country, end of. We pay for them, end of. Don’t like it? Well there isn’t alot you can do about it is there?
Thanks for the explanation of her type of morning sickness Jen, to be honest I have never heard of it, only thought there was one type, the one we common folk get
If your explanation is anything to go by then all her loved ones will want her looked after, and by all accounts it seems being in hospital is quite necessary.
Lets hope she doesn’t suffer for too long and is able to enjoy some of her pregnancy, blossom the way a pregnant woman should, and that if they want more children it doesn’t put her off having more.

Apparently it affects 1 in 200 mothers-to-be. It’s fair to say that my sister never blossomed in that pregnancy; the sickness did lessen to a more manageable level in her last 3 months but it never went away. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl and the midwife who delivered my niece told her that the majority of mums who suffered as she did gave birth to girls. She did have a second child, a boy, and absolutely no morning sickness whatsoever, so it makes you wonder…

Princess Diana the second it is then

I think it’s wonderful news.. Especially coming this time of the year.
    Love it!
It’s some happy news ffs.. The world has enough horror and bitterness as it is.
Any spite directed towards the happy couple is just that in my opinion.. Spite.. And unjustifiably so.
    I wish them well.
And if they happen to have twins, the whole succession gig should be fun :)

I’m so pleased for them too…….I was reading up on her condition, it sounds awful so I hope all goes well for them. My daughter is also named Kate Elizabeth and coincidentally we had a false alarm today with her pregnancy…… thought I was going to be a grandma early, but I will have to wait a little longer :?

I wonder what they will call the royal baby?…. if its a girl I bet it has Diana in its names somewhere :D
