The England job seems to be going to Luiz Felipe Scolari, the World Cup winning ex-coach of Brazil and Portugal. What do we think of that? Should England always have an English coach or should the FA have plumped for this guy with the track record and history of making the tough but fruitful decisions? What say you all?
27 April, 2006 at 5:06 pm #211482Quite a good choice I think.
I still England would have been better with an Englishman or Martin O’Neill.27 April, 2006 at 7:29 pm #211483The treatment of Sven-Göran Eriksson by the FA is outrageous!
Since he took over, England have played 21 World Cup games and lost 2.
12 European Championship games and lost 1.
Out of 60 games under Sven, England have lost 10. And 7 of those defeats
were friendlies. We deserve to lose the World Cup for undermining a good manager.
27 April, 2006 at 7:53 pm #211484That dosent tell the whole story Owen. All England manager’s should have a good record in qualifying games since England are usually the Number 1 seed’s in their group, and are therefore playing against lesser seeded teams in qualifying games.
I’ve got a feeling this is gonna be England’s year in Eriksson’s last tournament. I dont think they’ll win it, but I think they’ll get to the final.
In fact my feeling’s so strong I’d stick a few quid on them getting to the final if I wasnt a proud English hating Scotsman. :D :wink:27 April, 2006 at 8:17 pm #211485Discounting the friendlies, England have played 35 and lost 4 under Sven.
Sack the manager?! :roll:27 April, 2006 at 8:24 pm #211486the problem with a manager which we know very little about his history, is that the press will want to dig up his history, they want a story on the new man, and it will put him under pressure
but emply o’neil, alladyce or mcclaren, there is no history to dig up
england could find themself in the same position over and over again, if they are willing to face this, then why sack sven?

Sack the manager?! :roll:It dosent matter Owen. England fans aint intrested in his record in Qualifying games.
Fact is he hasnt taken them by a Quarter-Finals when the real buisness has started, and for a country the size of England a lot of people have obviously come to the conclusion that’s unacceptable.27 April, 2006 at 8:44 pm #211488The press decided, the sheep followed! :(
28 April, 2006 at 6:14 pm #21148928 April, 2006 at 6:20 pm #211490I think Sven should go – he has, through his tactical blunders, been the cause of most of Englands most painful defeats – think of games against France, Brazil and Portugal: all key games which England managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by deciding to shut up shop and try to hold onto a lead. That might have worked in Italian league football but England players simply don’t know how to do this – he didn’t learn and probably never will. England could win this World Cup (God forbid!) but not if they try to sit back and defend against technically superior teams.
