While I no longer come on the computer much. I have noticed a change here in the chatrooms over the past 10 years. I have used them. I’m sure others have noticed it as well. Once upon a time, people could come and unwind, have a good laugh and perhaps escape the ” real world”. ( Now I’m not talking about “friendly banter”. I know I have and still try too. But in the past few years I have noticed that chatrooms have become almost if not as bad as the ” real world”. To enter the chatrooms at times is like entering a playground at a school even pre-school. The fussing, bullying, name calling, etc. Let us not forget the people who cannot seem to take ” no” as well. These people become what we call over here as internet bullies and/or stalkers. Which is just as illegal as in real life. I would love to see the chatrooms as they once were. Yes, I agree this kind of occurances have always been around, but again I say it’s become worst. Lets go back to old times. Come in to just chill, unwind if you will. But if your in a bad mood, etc stay away. Allow those that care about having a nice chatter have one please. I’m sure I will have negative comments from others about this post, but as I have said. Times have changed. Let us change back to the ” Good old days”. * Steps off her soap box*

Rumour has it they exist even on this site .
There they’d find a far smaller mix of people who’s individual personalities would flower and find reciprocation.
But they don’t, they just accumulate in the lobby, and the frightened get put off from going elsewhere. Which is a shame, because once upon a time JC was comprised of rooms . . . . . .

Got to agree with you.
Relaxing and unwinding is difficult nowadays on-line cos it’s so full of people shouting and being abusive. Having a proper debate where people can choose to join in or not also often descends into people just using anonymity to be really unpleasant and personal. Extravagant excuses for racism or other prejudices abound on the grounds of attacking political correctness. Well what happened to not abusing and insulting somebody on the grounds of human decency?
There are however wonderful little chinks of light where people have great stories to tell, or where the most intelligent or most subtle of humour has me laughing out loud. You can also see some really well constructed arguments or some genuine love and care if you look hard enough.
Beautiful and wonderful in parts, but sadly a bit too harsh and nasty – just like a lot of real life then?
Always bearing in mind that I am just a namby-pamby who reckons the world would be a better place if we just tried to get on a wee bit better with each other.

Lots of good things on the site generally though – like ol TBD!
Don’t agree with everything the old dog says but he has the most fantastic off the wall sense of humour and has me laughing out loud a lot of the time

Same here, I like Toy, love his humour, (if it is humour), but even if hes a grumpy old man, he’s the kind that makes you laugh anyway. Besides he’s nice hes from down souf innit. :lol:
