I’ve loved Joni Mitchell’s songs and music since I was a teenager. She can stretch those lines almost beyond recognition, and they still remain beautiful.
She suffers from the dreadful Morgellons syndrome, where you see spiders crawling out of every wall, and had a brain aneurysm.
So I created this thread for people to write their opinions of her, and maybe post the songs of hers you like.
And if you don’t like her, are not interested etc then *
Very hard to sing without music, but here’s one to bring tears to the eyes of some.
Oh my friend, how did you come/to trade the fiddle for the drum?

Her music actually matured and became even more moving in later decades.
I always seem to find her giving voice to a mood.
Like in this early song…
pack it in, I heard you did, pack it in.
Was it hard to fold a hand you knew could win?
or
I feel that I’ve been working over time.
overtime I’ve lost my fire, Over time.
always playing one more hand for one more dime.

The fond belief that we only like music which is popular today, or popular when we were in our teens and twenties, is really surprising to me. I have several friends who are surprised at my musical taste (not all – some are very appreciative).
Their loss. They cut themselves off from some fantastic music.
Louis Armstrong’s ‘Tight Like This’ or ‘St James Infirmary’ are as exciting now as when they appeared in the late 1920s. Elvis Presely’s songs of the 50s and Sweet Gene Vincent are as dynamic today as they were when they appeared.
Ah well…c’est la vie

Lindsey is the sort of guy who would be able to come into a jc chatroom and feel comfortable there – maybe still does. But Lindsey would go much, much further.
The 1979 song is chilling, the music compelling but hard to listen to, the lyrics as always made into music by Joni’s voice as it stretches lines to express feelings whihc most of us will never know. Sometimes her voice turns into a wolf’s howl.
Of the darkness in men’s minds
what can you say
That wasn’t marked by history
or the tv news today.
He gets away with murder.
