i watched it, now i still think it was a pointless exercise, he can’t be tried etc etc… but also where there is usually no smoke without fire, so no doubt there is some kind of truth in it, or some of it, watching the body language of some of those people, in my opinion there was lies as well as truths going on, also the likes of one of them started a sexual relationship with him at 15 until her early 20’s now not being funny, but by your early twenties you are going to know whats going on, so crying any kind of sexual assault rape after choosing to have this relationship for this length of time seems odd to me.
Some may see he groomed her, she didn’t realise it was wrong but for all those years ? seriously ? Sad to say that for me its appears that there is some fabrication, exaggeration going on alongside some facts, but its easy to tell what ever tale you want now with no one to argue the points.
Maybe lie detector tests would be a good idea so there is some clue as to whats what precisely, but whatever the results it still changes nothing, and i don’t think his family should feel they have to admit or be villified for anything he may or may not have done, let it lie, it was a messy programme and achieved nothing except some sensationalising and good viewing figures.
But that said to me it appears he was certainly too tactile at the very least, but thats a bit different to some of the claims. Although i guess now 30 – 40 years on, things are a whole lot different now anyway, and certain behaviour then is less likely to happen now thankfully. Although when it does it tends to be worse sadly.
So whatever tag he has been given or whatever peoples opinions are now of him its still irrelevant as he lies at rest, away from it all, maybe time to put it to bed now.5 October, 2012 at 11:24 pm #511917@(f)politics? wrote:

You may think so but if it uncovers a paedophile ring – and it looks as though it may – then you’re going to look spectacularly stupid by making those kind of remarks.

I agree with you, Terry.
I know I said it was futile in the sense Saville is dead and cannot be prosecuted but it looks like there might be some celebs from Saville’s DJ circle who are still living and who might have some serious questions to answer.

A paedophile ring ? well if there is a bunch of them that were indulging in sych things then, i doubt very much those people that are still alive are in much of a state to be doing anything of the sort now, so yeah maybe after years of more investigations they find something, soe of them will be dead by then, or end up in prison at a time when they couldn’t do anything like that due to their age anyway.
But if it prevents future likes happening Terry then i agree, but i think the world has changed since those days and doubt they would ever be in a position like that now anyway, but if it makes sure of that then yes its all good6 October, 2012 at 9:36 am #511920Poli at times your naivety astounds me…at least I hope it is naivety.
6 October, 2012 at 9:47 am #511921i’m not sure its naivety jen, maybe it is i don’t know, i just feel so many things are blown out of proportion and too much time and money spent on things that have little conclusion to them thats all. And if the country woud rather put its monies into investigating something that in truth is fairly dead and buried now as far as any continuation from these people, worrying about the past, rather than perhaps using those resources for the here and now, the starving, homeless, current paedophile issues and so on, to me it seems a real waste of energy, time and money. If something comes out of it to prevent future children being abused in any way then i take it all back, but i’m pretty sure for example, any claims made in hopsital or the BBC for example like that now, wouldnt be brushed aside. If thats me being naive then i hold my hands up cos i do believe that, not saying these things don’t happen but just don’t think they would be brushed under any carpets now.
6 October, 2012 at 10:31 am #511922So abuse victims who didn’t come forward years ago should now keep quiet if their abusers are dead or “too old to be a threat”? When is a man too old to be a threat?
And if you don’t think it would be brushed under the carpet now if someone was influential enough…well there isn’t anything more to be said is there?
Tell me…your child comes to you as an adult and breaks down, they tell you that they were abused as a child 20 years ago but were too afraid to say anything at the time and it still haunts them. Their abuser is now in their 70s or dead. What are you going to say to your child?
Well sorry love, you should have said something at the time, it’s too late now that he’s dead/too old to be a threat to anyone else so lets just forget about it and move on shall we? Nothing to be gained from going back to it, waste of time and energy…

I couldn’t agree more. =D>
6 October, 2012 at 10:59 am #511924If all the claims are to be believed, there are still people alive who participated in the abuse of these young vulnerable people. Those who stood by and allowed it to happen through fear of losing their job perhaps, these people have the potential to be charged with a crime. Aiding and abetting criminal activity perhaps.
I remember reading about how Corey Haim (now deceased) was the subject of a lot of attention in America when he was a young teen from unscrupulous agents. Not all the attention he received was appropriate. Those that did it believed they were powerful and were above the law.
Imagine being a young female back in the 70’s. You get to meet an icon of the day, you are nervous, excited, and would do anything to be in the mere presence of that person. Then out of the blue, this person, this much loved icon decides that he is going to take advantage of you, touch you in intimate places you know that a man should never touch you. But this is no ordinary man, this is Jimmy Saville. When it’s over, he is all smiles, he bestows you with gifts perhaps. All you can do is smile and take them while inside you are breaking down into pieces that no one can ever mend. Then years later, when the very fine line of child abuse is now a very thick line that should never be crossed is a subject that isn’t taboo anymore, you decide to come forward. Jimmy is dead now, and you know you can never see the man suffer for his crimes, but you carried this for years and people need to know he wasn’t a patron saint of anything. Imagine the horror of reading that you should move on, get over it, nothing good will come of it, he’s dead now so what is the point of raking up something that happened years ago. How do you explain to people that you can never get over it, that it made you hate men for years. Yes, sexual abuse only matters while the person who committed the crime is alive, it doesn’t matter that there are potential victims out there who carry this burden of guilt still, because many victims believe they are the one who is to blame. But that doesn’t matter because he’s dead now, he can’t possibly be charged with any crime. So what happened to you doesn’t matter one jot now either, it’s over and done with. Finished.
Try telling the family of Claire McAlpine that once her abusers are dead, it doesn’t matter anymore that she was used for sexual gratification by showbusiness DJ’s back in the day. That taking her life was the only way out, but once the perpetrators are all dead, it doesn’t matter because it’s over then isn’t it? Forget that her family were robbed of their daughter, of a chance of grandchildren because grown men in showbusiness that knew better couldn’t keep their dirty little hands off young girls. But it doesn’t matter to you does it. It wasn’t you, it wasn’t your daughter, it wasn’t your life that was wrecked.
So yes, lets sweep it all under the carpet, where it doesn’t exist anymore.
6 October, 2012 at 11:07 am #511925Some of the comments on this thread have astounded me..
By all accounts many victims did report him…..where did it all went wrong? I don’t know..
Seems many people helped in covering up the abuse….I pray to god that it would never happen today….
As for “all these women coming out of the woodwork”….and?….maybe it’s the case a few have spoken out and other victims have found a tiny bit of courage to tell their story….they suddenly don’t feel alone or ashamed at Savile’s actions and feel the more people speak up finally it will be believed
The timing is unfortunate as he is dead…but it has to be dealt with regardless -
