yup, I read that too and have seen it said on tv by various presenters.
18 October, 2012 at 6:41 am #512077Savile’s coffin was encased in concrete allegedly to stop thieves from digging him up and stealing the jewellery he was wearing.
Perhaps there was another reason such as knowing these stories were going to break so pre-emptive action was taken to stop his remains from being dug up and desecrated.

He must have been too tight a bastard to pass on any of his jewellery to his family..
bet the woman who claimed to be his lovechild a few months back wishes she never sold her story to the paper too….poor woman actually looked like him too18 October, 2012 at 9:54 am #512079Whose feeling lucky he’s dead now then, now then, now then?
Gotta laugh.
18 October, 2012 at 10:52 am #512080at least this thread is starting to get funny… :)
i can’t say I’ve followed this story enough to claim accuracy, but my understanding is that the family had his headstone removed because it was attracting a circus..I think that’s part and parcel of respecting the visits of others to their loved ones, not an admission of guilt on their part…
But like kenty – I dunno :?
Meanwhile, e all wait with anxiety for the report from Inspector Knacker of the Yard.
23 October, 2012 at 7:43 am #512081As the BBC start turning on themselves, and journalists start blaming their bosses for not taking on a story the Crown Prosecution Service wouldn’t touch, is it not about time we stopped trying to find a witch to burn?
Looks like we are going to blame institutions and individual managers for a failure of our whole culture.
Last night Panorama was as embarrassing for the failures of communication when the story broke, as it was for a journalist and a producer moaning about a decision their boss made, which turned out to be a bad one in hindsight. I have often disagreed with a boss but I wasn’t given the opportunity to dis him on TV.
This by Roy Lilley is better than anything I could write.

24 October, 2012 at 6:32 am #512082Accusations that he was into necrophilia have re -surfaced again this morning. Apparently he visited the mortuary alone.
Savile denied he was a necrophiliac – then again, he also denied he was a paedophile.
*shudders
I wish the tv would stop showing that clip of him running and which does a close up of his face where he looks directly into the camera. I suppose they keep re – running it because in it, he looks hideously evil.
24 October, 2012 at 6:57 am #512083I’ve never liked Jimmy, as I’ve stated earlier, from the time I first saw him on TOTP back in 64 when I was a pop-picker (anyone remember that phrase of Alan Freeman’s????).
But something scares me about witch-hunts. I have a horrible fear from childhood that they’re looking for – MEEEEE!! – and I am a provoking victim type (if you understand that type of ‘personality disorder’).
I too have visited cemetaries, and was in a mortuary once (not alone – really, honest, I can prove it, Officer, don’t get me, please, please). One of my many cousins was a mortuary attendant, which means she was alone often (I think, Officer – will that be all?? Can I go now? Has Terry alerted the Mail to my existence yet? *trembles).
It’s very very strange how the pics of Jimmy running and driving around the country once brought feelings of warmth to all, and now they bring shudders – though nothing has been substantiated. If he’s guilty (and the investigation IS actually ongoing, and if he’s guilty I’ve no idea of how serious the crimes will be! please note, this is not an apology or an endorsement of abuse, please note this, officer and others), I am not going to lose a moment’s sleep.
But this is becoming more important in its public consequences than one guy who turns out to be either a scapegoat for British prurience or a horrific sex criminal. It’s hitting the BBC now, and public broadcasting has powerful enemies. It’s It’s likely to hit the NHS, and it’s hitting charities. I don’t think it will destroy the advances made by the ‘permissive’ 1960s in attitudes to our sexual lives, though that is certainly on the agenda of some.
