momes,
you make the right points, though to tell you the truth it’s the mudslinging and witch hunting which interest me. It’s amazing that there hasn’t been more on this thread (give it more time, did I hear someone say?).
But have you tried to control 14- and 15-year-old girls??? The hormones are racing round like at Le Mans, they’re as daft as rabbits, and ready to snap at parents like pitbull terriers.
I had to laugh at a recent episode of Wallander where two young schoolgirls approach the ugly bear and demand he buy some lipstick for them or they’ll tell the cops he was groping them.
So a serious point – how you going to protect them in reality? Coz they need as much protection as Wallander and his ilk.
ps I said in an earlier thread that Sir Jimmy was accused of molesting women at stoke mandeville, but I checked and it was Leeds General. As I say, it seems bizarre to me, the way people didn’t report it (hundreds of sightings are now being claimed, not just a couple) because they were ill at the time.
11 October, 2012 at 5:30 pm #512017momentary loss, you make some excellent points, thank you.
sceptical guy, you are again saying its the girls fault, and they need controlling, when in fact what momentary loss was saying was more likely to be nearer the truth.
They need protecting… not blamed.
Oh and there were patients abused at both Leeds AND Stoke Mandeville. And I read that they are investigating his connection to the orphanage in Jersey that hit the news a couple of years ago. How much of it can be proved, only time will tell. But never blame young girls for the perversions of 30 something men.

But, minim, I said they need protecting.
11 October, 2012 at 6:29 pm #512019in my experience the ‘abused’ are very rarely the one at fault
11 October, 2012 at 7:35 pm #512020I always thought Jimmy Savile was creepy, like there was something about him that didn’t add up. He somehow managed to be both bland but intense at the same time, relying on a collection of catchphrases and cliches while being over familiar with people.
As a DJ he smarmed his way through whatever show he was presenting without appearing to show any great interest in or knowledge of the artists or industry. And despite his catchphrases and silly noises, he was not funny. All the time it was like he was trying too hard – with his quirky appearance, with his ’causes’, with his ostentatious wealth and his ‘warmth’.

on that,, tinks, I fully agree…..and I’ve also had experience of abused children, including a court case in which the abuser protested his innocence on teh grounds that the children wanted it.
Those children suffered a long time because they didn’t trust the grown-ups who were shouting about how good they were. They had formed a bond of silence, because grown-ups were the enemy, and they tried to handle it themselves. Once the law took over, they lost control, but at least the abuser was jailed..for a little while (but that’s another story, and an eye-opener itsefl about class influence in our great justice system).
But I am also very aware that children are vulnerable, but aren’t innocent angels – and that abuse can be used to get at adults you don’t like.
Above all, abuse can be used by adults to get at adults you don’t like. In a thread on that poor girl in Wales, I didn’t mention Goebbels’s approach to child sex murderers loosely.
In short, abuse is wrong first and always, but the cases aren’t always straightforward. Pointing that out doesn’t make me condone abuse, unless someone wants to smear.
On Sir Jimmy,
11 October, 2012 at 8:01 pm #512022I never liked Sir Jim, but I respect people like Mrs T who have met him and liked him. If she was duped, then she was hardly alone.
The whole case strikes me as bizarre. That doesn’t mean it’s false, but it is bizarre.

On Sir Jimmy,
please explain that to me
