Cameron is a millionaire surrounded by other millionaires. Bet they are all taking advantage of tax laws to pay as little as possible – as would most people. If the loopholes exist to “avoid” tax then it ain’t illegal. Simples. Since his entourage cannot be squeaky clean in terms of tax avoidance, he is heading for a comedown real fast.
The thing that makes me really sick though is the whole accountability issue. The Inland Revenue knows the wheezes and tells the politicians about them.
So who is responsible for the tax system – oh yes – it’s David Cameron and his friends. And it has been for a couple of years now; quite long enough to change things.
So the government is criticising someone for legally using the government’s own tax system to pay their tax? Sounds to me like the fault is with the muppet politicians who let this continue, and not with someone acting within the law. Yet the hypocrites still have the cheek to parade other people through the press as if they were unclean just for keeping to the rules.
If you couldn’t take responsibility for your own actions at work, people would be quick enough to call you incompetent. Everything is still everyone else’s fault. The double dip recession wisna me. It was that naughty Labour Party. It was those nasty immigrants. It’s all the fault of the Euro zone. And now, it’s those law abiding citizens paying their tax.
Davie boy, forget your Eton mannerisms, you’re just a cheap, shiny-suited showman. If you can’t take it like a man, and have to bleat about everyone else all the time, you’re certainly no gentleman.
22 June, 2012 at 10:04 am #499472BTW I have no particular sympathy for those who avoid tax. If you earn the money you can afford to pay.
At the same time, there will always be loopholes. I expect people to use them. I also expect politicians to keep closing them.
Think of it this way, if you win a game by sticking to the rules, you are a worthy winner. If you do things that are within the rules but people disagree with them, the correct thing to do is for the governing body to get together and change the rules.
You don’t retrospectively change the result of the game. Neither do you moan on and on and on about how unfair the result was. You deal with it, get over it, and move on.
I do not expect this constant moaning about people going about their lawful business from a millionaire politician, whose father reportedly had lots of (legal) tax dodges when he was alive.

Self employed ppl can quite easily avoid or evade paying tax.
Really? Does someone want to tell me how?
Self employed ppl quite often ask for cash in hand. They may declare some earnings but not all. Easier to hide cash payments so no paying tax on their full income.
Also, self employed ppl can set up their own company, pay themself a small salary and the rest in dividends so lessening their tax burden.
Having a Limited Company paying your wages and then dividends is neither illegal or immoral..if someone works hard and sets up their own company/companies and wants to determine their own wages etc why shouldn’t they? Seems unless your P.A.Y.E you must be up to something dodgy or hiding something…
I never said there was anything wrong with starting a limited company but it is a way of reducing one’s tax liability.
I was merely responding to Jen’s question in how self employed ppl can avoid paying tax via a limited company and evade paying it by not declaring income paid in cash.
Evasion is illegal, avoidance isn’t.

So do I take it you don’t work in a mortuary?
I have done, a long time ago, but not anymore, and not in this country.
There was a thread on here where I posted I needed the patience of a Saint in my job (which I do now) so Teapot asked what I did. I’m not going to divulge what I do for a living on here, so I thought of a previous role and mischieviously said mortuary technican.
I thought Teapot would pick up on the irony but didn’t. Instead I think she said words to the effect that it suited me, more I suspect as an insult, to what she feels is my “cold” personality (rather than alluring to the compassion, repect and empathy required, particulary when dealing with family members of the deceased,) so I thought I’d carry on the pretence.
So there you have it. No doubt Teapot will want to shoot me but she’ll have to join the back of the queue. :D
Ah I see…you mean you lied.
Yep!
